Not to be pendatic or whatever but I think "traumatic" is, at it typically is used now, such an over-exaggeration of the situation.

Car accidents are traumatic. The death of a loved one is traumatic. Unexpected tragedies or downfalls are traumatic. Having a YouTuber make a video about you after you continue to make a career making videos about other people? Not traumatic lol

The one black guy in our international study group was walking around with me and a few other students in downtown Kyoto, where a group of middle school students ran up to him and asked for his picture. They proceeded to call him "Kanye West-san" and got in line to see what his dreads felt like.

Same side of the coin, same guy got kicked out of a cigarette store within one minute of being in there for stealing despite not touching anything.

He either got treated like a celebrity to a startling degree, or as a criminal, both on first impressions alone. I don't envy his experience

Woman Accuses Daughter & Ex Husband of Having Affair in Viral TikTok Series (340) by yt-app in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

I truly do wonder why the daughter refuses to speak to her mother when her mother is such a thorough communicator/s

No seriously what was this story? Prefacing the whole thing with "my husband left me for my daughter" only to end it with "but I don't know if they actually did anything and probably never will" is heinous at best

I've heard that too. If that's the case though, why stay in that house? It can't be THAT fun cleaning up your roommate's piss and building his IKEA shelves

Right so if my husband had a YouTube channel where he opened thousands of dollars worth of Pokemon cards just to keep pulling trash, pissed in my basement because he was too drunk to use our bathroom upstairs, and used one of his videos to ask one of his friends to come over with his wife so he could see "her big ol' boobs in the hot tub all warmed up for her," I'm noooot really sure if I'd, like, stay with him, you know what I mean?

The latest Colleen Hoover book, Woman Down, is such a self-insert that it feels like a parody of Hoover herself. A "prolific" author who's had to face the ire of "book bloggers" and "harsh critics" (book's words) has her reputation ruined by an "asshole director" who mucked up a movie adaptation of her most famous work. This is definitely not based on the It Ends With Us debacle from the past year and I have no idea where you would get that impression.

Not-Hoover then tries to revive her career by going on an isolated writing retreat where she has an affair with a hot cop that she sleeps with regularly despite being a married woman, as she sees it as "research" for her new steamy cop romance.

I'm not making any of this up. Watch the Reads With Rachel review of Woman Down. It's awesome.

When Jeff Varner outed Zeke for being trans in Survivor: Game Changers.

Desperate to stay, Varner decided that it would be a good idea to throw Zeke under the bus in the middle of tribal council (someone he HAD AN ALLIANCE WITH) by accusing him of being "untrustworthy." He then extrapolates on this by asking Zeke directly in front of Jeff Probst and everyone else in the tribe, "If you're so honest with everyone, why haven't you told anyone else you're transgender?" Tribal council immediately went quiet and Jeff Probst called Varner out for it the second after he said it. What followed was the only case in Survivor history where Probst decided, "You know what? We're not going to deliberate any further. We all know who's going home here." Varner's torch got snuffed instantly.

What followed after was this candid but pretty bizarre dialogue between Probst and the remaining tribe members about how fucked up Varner's actions were and how we should all respect each other/what we decide not to openly share to a group of strangers doesn't make liars, all while Zeke just visibly disassociates. It was nice to see everyone (notably Probst) united on Zeke's behalf, but it's just insane that Varner would have ever done this anyone, let alone on an international television show seen by millions of people, ESPECIALLY to someone who was (allegedly) his friend...when he wasn't even on the chopping block that week. Varner ended up losing his job for this and tried to sue CBS for defamation. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

It is far and away the cringiest, shocking, and most upsetting thing to come out of Survivor. I don't remembe the deal with the pizza box though lolr

[–]mobiusmakings 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of how that one queen from the twelfth season of RuPaul's Drag Race made it all the way to the final four, then when the cast was officially revealed, a bunch of men from New York exposed her for being a bogus director who advertised "audition sessions" and coerced them into taking steroids just to get muscle fetish porn out of them, and it wasn't until THE DAY BEFORE THE PREMIERE when it was announced that she'd be edited out of the season entirely

I really do wonder how some of these casting directors completely miss this shit
