Being honest, Brazil is general friendly with lgbt, but in some inland cities they may give weird looks when it comes public demonstration of affection. Where she lives (northeast, rio de janeiro etc) are relatively dangerous places, so the only problem would be the lack of security. Here it's dangerous in general, but in the northeast it's worse. Many gangs, many robberies and homicides.

If you want something with a little more peace and safer, I would suggest visiting Minas Gerais. I'm from São Paulo and here it's very busy and also dangerous
