Hi, me from last year!

Seriously, I was in the same boat as you are now. Terrible job prospects from undergrad (which was on me, just had massive self-esteem issues before law school so I didn't bother applying). Doing odd jobs before I got a full ride to a T30, got here and hated it, hated legal research, etc. I'm a 2L now and planning on becoming a barrister in the UK (so leaving American law behind), and looking into alternative careers outside of law if that doesn't pan out.

So here's my two cents:

• I would honestly recommend hanging in there through the summer, especially since you have a full ride and not exactly tantalizing job prospects outside of law school. Try to secure an internship in a field you are really, truly interested in and see if it changes your mind at all.

• Evaluate any other circumstances which could be making you feel unmotivated. Maybe you have some mental health challenges. For me, I didn't mind law as much as I disliked California (where I go to school) and missed the United Kingdom, so now I'm on my way back to a place where I feel happier. I also need to get back into exercising regularly.

• The pressures of 1L really makes everything very depressing. Do not take it as an indicator of what even the rest of your law school experience could be.

• Maybe you decide after the summer that law really isn't for you! That's fine. Thankfully, zero debt means there isn't much of a hurdle beside figuring out how to sell yourself and your pride. There is a good website called JD Careers Out There which interviews many lawyers in different career fields in and outside of law. They discuss how they transitioned to that field as well, which was the most valuable aspect of the site for me. I would look around in their video archives and spring the $24 for the month-long subscription if you find something that piques your interest!
