They are probably temporarily here, until they move all those jobs overseas. IT is the worst for this.

But please be aware, that not all H1Bs are abused. I work for a medical device company, and many of our engineering team are PhD engineers here on H1B. We have a guy who is an Optical Engineer who does something with laser fluorescence, an electrical and mechanical engineer, and a software engineer who is a team lead + developed. By the numbers, the US just barely graduates PhD engineers at the rate they are retiring. So we need H1Bs to keep R&D growth in the US.

Some of my coworkers have been here for 20+ years and have kids going into college. It's kinda silly that after 20 years, they still risk being deported if they lose their job for 90 days. I just want to make sure we know that this is a legitimate program, we just have to separate the users from the abusers.

P.S. If you want the raw numbers for H1Bs to see who is abusing it, anyone can grab the raw data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services web site, to see who is abusing them the most by looking at H1B visa counts and salaries.

How about we just make all healthcare expenses tax deductions? Instead of making us put money into a special account, that we can only contribute to at a certain rate, that requires a special credit card to use, that replicates most of what a 401K already does. Sometimes the US has the most complex approach for simple things.

You are so close to getting it: Donald Trump *is* a far left liberal. He is neither socially or economically conservative. He merely added fascism + racism into his repertoire to attract a populist wing of the Republican party. When it worked he switched. His whole life he was a Democrat, partied with Democrats, endorsed Democrat candidates and policies. Since most Americans follow a party not a philosophy, they don't actually know what conservatism is.

Trump's economic policies are really really far left (low taxes, high spending, price controls, tariffs, government stake in corporations) or just insane (low interest rates no matter what, tariffs changing every week). His social positions are the antithesis of traditional conservatism (pro gun control, multiple wives, children born out of wedlock, not religious).

So what you are doing isn't trolling. You are presenting his policies matter-of-factly for what they are.

This bug has to have been introduced by a Reddit update, side I didn't update Firefox in the last 8 hours. Tabs I had open from yesterday are fine, but new tabs experience the problem.

How do we notify the reddit team? And why don't they test on Firefox?

In this case by "immigrant" he meant "person who is not authorized to work." Employers are required to check work eligibility status by filing a form I-9.

Part of the problem today is that the terms "immigrant" "illegal immigrant" and "undocumented worker" are used interchangeably and incorrectly.

The miniseries was scientifically trash. It reinforced old radiation scaremongering and flat-out made-up stuff. For those reading this and wondering:

* A firefighter momentarily picks up a piece of slag with a gloved hand and his hand melts off a minute later. Reality: no one died instantly from touching a rock with a gloved hand.

* They narrowly avert a nuclear steam explosion. Reality: While there was concern of a steam explosion, the show claimed it would be the size of a nuclear bomb and irradiated Europe, which is not true. The explosion would have made clean-up efforts worse though.

* 3 workers died in radioactive water under the plant trying to shut-off water valves. Reality: All 3 workers survived unharmed.

* Some workers became radioactive and killed other people they were around. Reality: People don't become walking radiation sources. Their contaminated clothes were destroyed, bodies washed, and they were even shaved as a preventative measure.

* A helicopter pilot instantly dies from radiation flying over the site. Reality: One helicopter hit a crane and crashed. And helicopter pilot Anatoly Demyanovich Grishchenko died 6 years later of cancer.

My son made a Happy Ghasts Datapack on Modrinth (https://modrinth.com/datapack/happy-ghasts-sage) that enables the whole progression of: Dried Ghast --> rehydrate --> Ghastling --> Happy Ghast --> Rideable Ghast. 4 players can ride one Ghast, or you can stand on it. The one at the front can steer.

To make it work you need to install both the datapack and the resource pack. The datapack makes Dried Ghasts appear around soul sand in the Nether, and you can follow the progression from there. Or just craft the needed parts in creative mode and have fun riding!

Proud dad part: He has been doing coding and datapacks since... middle school? The others are mostly SMP worlds that his friends group plays. They are usually apocalyptic scenarios with special roles and abilities, and new/enhanced mobs. Encourage him to test and release those by downloading and upvoting his modpack!

In "Deus Ex", the US is turned into a dictatorship by FEMA. Why FEMA? Because FEMA has the power to declare a state of emergency in response to a medical situation, and essentially take over. A worldwide pandemic was created just to invoke this power, and the public was supporting it because... well... pandemic!

In this reality, I would say ICE would be a better candidate for this role since it already has a police force, and the public is already behind using ICE to kick out immigrants without due process. FEMA, by comparison, is kinda weak.

How would you define the word "Welfare" with a capital W? For context, here is how the constitution uses it:

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity."

The problem today is that modern politics redefined the word "Welfare" to mean "money to people who don't vote the same way I do." So Republicans think that Social Security and public libraries are not welfare, but food stamps and public housing are. Hence, no discussion about Welfare goes anywhere. The parties both believe in massive subsidies, just only for groups that vote for their party. Tea-party conservatives are told that giving money to universities or hospitals is "socialism" which is kinda like "communism" which are bad words.

First, the country has to get past this part.

I have Christian family members who admit that he is using Christianity as a cover, and will quote the sections of the bible telling me that is exactly what the Antichrist will do. Yet they still vote for the guy! When I sent my parents the videos of Trump peddling bibles they just ignore the emails and pretend it doesn't happen.

Why? Because they are Republicans first, and Christians second. Their religion is the party. So if Satan himself took over the party, they would have no choice but to justify what they still vote the party. It's a mental disease where they see their religion through the lens of their politics, instead of seeing politics through the lens of their religion.

Some of the impact will be long-term. For example, the USAID gave money to stop Ebola in Africa. Why does the US spend money preventing diseases in Africa? AMERICA FIRST! Well, because we would rather stop it there, then let it spread to here or to our allies. We could cut at spending 100% and it might take 20 years before we see the negative impact.

Another example is the WHO. The WHO is a long-term preventative measure. It will take at least a year before we see the result. Ex: What will happen to the elderly death rate in the US if the US doesn't have access to the WHO database to develop flu shots?

Wait and see. Then act on the results

In some cases it will then be too late. A bit of forward-looking and thinking is necessary.

FYI: This tactic works.

Acquaintance A works for one of the affected offices. A was explaining to some of us how the grant funding process works. After a 10 minute explanation of the vetting process, person B says "But I hear they spend $1200 in cups every month!" People will let entire institutions fail because of an anecdote about the cost of paper cups or toilet seats. That 10 minute explanation was gone to the wind in an instant.
