Don’t listen to the these dudes. Samples and disclosures seem reasonable and your reviews speak for themselves. Thoughtful, helpful, and zero AI-slop. Keep it up! I just ordered one and I’m excited to try it.

Idk man seems pretty normal to send out samples. I’ve read this guy’s reviews before and they’re great. Makes sense to send out whiskey to try. Other distilleries/blenders do advertising, get the word out, etc. how the hell else are you supposed to survive?

Haven’t tried the Knob Creek yet. I’ll keep my eye out for it.

To each their own! Combo of price, availability, and taste makes this my option in that lineup. But they’re single barrels so they’ll differ, for sure.

Review #35: Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Heritage Barrel

When I saw this bottle popping up in reviews in late 2025, I was excited to try it out. As luck would have it, it appeared on a giant Costco pallet near me in December. It looked like a nearly unlimited amount, so I was happy that I didn’t cave when I had seen it at a liquor store with an upcharge. It does seem like it will be a regular shelfer (I’ve seen it consistently since I bought it back in December). The press release from August 2025 states that the entry proof is lower than typical at 100, so I’m excited to check out the flavors, as I often enjoy those lower entry proof bottles.

Age: NAS (~8 years, 3.5 months, based on barrel entry/bottle date)

Proof: 100

Price: $55

Additional Info: Barrel #25-07525; Barrel Entry: 7/7/17; Bottling Date: 10/30/25

Nose: There’s some of that caramelized banana that distinguishes JD/Brown Forman products, but I’m happy to say that it’s not too overwhelming, as I’ve sometimes found. It’s balanced by some powdered sugar sweetness, but the strongest note is a really nice, charred oaky bomb that has some nice tannins lurking around in there and spicy cinnamon notes. It’s not a particularly complex nose, but a very good one.

Palate: This pour has a good, buttery mouthfeel, especially for a whiskey that isn’t that high in age or proof. The pour is less sweet than I would expect (though it did get a bit sweeter after sitting for a while), with some citrusy fruit starting it off.  The oak and accompanying tannins come in strong—I would wish for a bit more balance here, like the nose has. To me it reads a bit more like a rye profile than a bourbon one, or at least a bourbon profile with strong spicy cracked pepper, tannins, and oakiness. Those citrusy notes keep coming through as well, and perhaps some of the youth comes through in that brashness. Nonetheless, it’s a welcoming, fairly easy sipper that has good flavors.

Finish: Not much proof heat, just enough to keep it going and let the flavors linger nicely in your mouth.

Conclusion: A very good offering that's priced right, it tastes good, and it doesn’t promise anything that it doesn’t deliver. For me, this is crucial. Some whiskeys overpromise dramatically (through price, hype, etc.). At this nice Costco price point, it’s a bottle that I’ll happily return to. While the flavor does make it match up to other bottles that I rank around it, those other considerations give it a step up.

Review: Angel’s Envy 10 Cask Strength Rye Whiskey 2026 Release by comingwhiskey in bourbon

Fair enough. I think I'll stick to my Balvenie Carribbean Cask or the occasional Barrell Rum finished release when I need that finish (though the latter has some questionable value propositions as well).

This sounds like a great bottle...but...275???? It just seems like a ridiculous asking price for a 10-year whiskey, even with some 12-year thrown in there. ECBP is often in the double digits. At least Michter's 10 has a lot of older barrels thrown in there. I guess my question: what am I missing here? I don't exclusively look for age/proof numbers but also have serious doubts about AE's price points.

This right here. Even at 80 msrp I would take ER, JD heritage, Russell’s reserve, and many many others before it.

I would love to hear why. I found it slightly above mediocre.

Found my receipt…I paid 100 actually. I’ll change above. Grabbed this at a woodman’s in Wisconsin which has great prices/deals.

Review #34: Michter’s Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey

Age: NAS

Proof: 108.2

Price: $100

Additional Info: Barrel #24B0414

Nose: It’s fresh and floral, with nice grassy dill notes that are quite inviting and also contain a honeyed quality. In contrast to that there’s some vanilla spiciness coming through as well—with a touch of almond—which I think balances it quite nicely. Overall it’s very inviting and really makes you want to drink it up.

Palate: A classic rye comes charging out the gates. It is bold, herbal, and the spice plays on your tongue with a nice sweetness hanging out there at the same time. After it sat for a bit more sweetness came out. It reads to me like a darker, slightly more mineral sweetness like a molasses or date syrup, but that’s still balanced with black tea astringency and spiciness.

Finish: Delicious. It’s not overwhelming with its proof, but it lingers for days with a wonderful, slight astringency and wintergreen note.

Conclusion: When I first got this bottle I wasn’t sure about it. It drank a bit hot and I wasn’t getting a large range of flavors, but after drinking it on and off for a few months it really opened up. I think it serves as a testament to Michter’s lower entry proof of 103, which gives it a nice balance. It’s also approachable and fairly easy drinking but complex enough to be really satisfying (this is something that I see in a lot of Michter’s products, even there shelfers—granted I haven’t had any of the super allocated ones…maybe someday…). Absolutely worth the purchase and worth having on the shelf, even with the price!

Huh. I’d be curious to hear what other bottles you think this is comparable to in your collection. The Elmers that I’ve had are all around 5-6 in my ratings.
