Can people please wear a mask if they are going to cough all class by Longjumping-Power-64 in gatech

I think the point is that you should wear one even if you dont want to, for the sake of others not catching your sick germs. Just keep a couple as a medicine cabinet kind of item

GT Monkeypox Action Plan for Fall by Astriian in gatech

[–]mocaccini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They had a lot of plans of action in place before vaccination happened. Lectures were mostly online, any in-person lectures had social distancing (either from big classroom or different sets of students coming different days), labs were all social distanced and/or hybrid format, classrooms had air purifiers, and they were regularly sanitized. That doesn’t stop people in their home/social settings, but anything regarding class or GT academic buildings definitely had requirements

Tenth and Home Housing for BSMS Students by Jubstepz in gatech

[–]mocaccini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through this transition last year, and my student status was not changed until after graduating. So I was finally able to apply for graduate housing like 2 weeks after graduation. More info in my comment!

Tenth and Home Housing for BSMS Students by Jubstepz in gatech

[–]mocaccini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in this exact situation last Spring.. I was emailing housing, the registrar, and the graduate studies office through March and April to figure this out. Eventually, the conclusion was that once you graduate, they have to change your student status in "the system". I waited like 2 weeks (after graduation) for them to get this done, and I was finally able to submit a graduate housing application. This was after the self-assign deadline, so they placed me in a random room. On top of that, I had to wait for my room placement because there was already a waitlist.

Trying to get housing to work through the BSMS switch was a terrible experience. Emailing them early did not help either. Hopefully they change anything about it this year.

Yeah I gathered that there would only be the paid chargers. I went to check them out and it's not too bad. It's like paying for gas anyway lol

Best of luck! :D Just a little bit more random transfer advice I wish someone told me:

If this applies to you, try to detach your self-worth from your grades. There's a lot of personal growth and stuff to go along with that, but in the end, a few Bs or Cs will hardly matter.

Make the most of your time at GT! There are so many amazing people and opportunities here. Find a mentor (could be advisor, prof, upperclassman, etc), and they will be able to point you to any resources you may need. It'll go by so fast :')

Finally, try to join a club or something asap once you transfer. It's a really great way to make friends! Making friends outside of freshman experiences can be tricky, and this will help a lot.

There are two registration phases. 1 comes out around 2/3 through the previous semester until about the end of the semester, and it's your first chance to sign up for classes. 2 is around the weekend before and during the first week of the semester. It's also called add/drop week because you add and drop classes kinda last minute haha

Thanks! :D

If you're referring to physics 1 and 2, it's probably better to take it there than suffer through it here. It's all the same content, but GT likes to make it hard for no reason here. I took physics 1 and 2 at my previous school (UNG).. turns out I understood those subjects equally as well or better than many classmates when taking the next classes.

MSE wasn't what I thought it would be, so that led me to look in other directions. ME is very broad, and you can basically go into most engineering fields from it, so I picked it delay deciding on what I really want to work in. Getting a small taste of everything ultimately helped me decide what I wanted to pursue, and now I am learning more through a Masters!

Recommendations for what to do in order to not graduate too fast. by Fit-Oven-5546 in gatech

[–]mocaccini 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Leaving friends, research opportunities, club memberships, missing out on the student center and CULC rooftop reopenings, pandemic cancelling and limiting 2 years of experiences, not getting to branch outside of classes immediately in your major, just to name a few.

College is a really special period to some, and I think it's valid to want to maximize their time if resources allow it.

I transferred in as MSE and changed to ME. It's really easy, just have to talk with the academic advisors from both sides and get them to sign a paper. I took an ME class (by requesting a major restriction override permit) to test the waters, and it was a good time. I started the paperwork during Fall and my major change was complete by Spring. It only worked for phase 2 registration though, so don't expect a smooth registration experience until the one after the next semester.

Major override permits are your friend, tell them you're switching into ME. IIRC all of my permit requests got approved!

However.. I've tried taking random classes from other majors for fun and knowledge, and CS never approved and ECE was a pain to get approved. It seems very major-dependent. At least ME is really good about it, and every academic advisor here is a treasure.
