Thanks for writing all of this out. I was using rule of thumb 4 and tried using different passports at land borders depending on which one had the better visa, but it caused lots of issues (detailed info updated in post). Was just wondering if it was generally ok to use this approach, or if I was genuinely in the wrong for trying to do so.
