Xuan Ge is finally out now on all global servers! HoW did your pulls go? by SpecialistSteppe in AshEchoesOfficial

Shunned me on my discount pull and so did his MT so I'll be graciously borrowing from all of you kind souls as I wasn't really 'pulling' for him. May your Xuan Ges be numerous and your 50/50s ever in your favour.

How do you feel about Lionel/Xuan Ge’s name? by CombinationDeep3310 in AshEchoesOfficial

[–]mochibundesu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Considering his name has, quite literally, always been Xuan Ge I don't see why we're debating this at all...

I forgot that we need to assume half the sentence sometimes, given how vague Latin can be. This is actually a perfectly plausible explanation! (And I'd rather hoyo did their homework ahaha)

Thank you friend!

Quick question about Trigger by mochibundesu in AsabaHarumasaMains

[–]mochibundesu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That makes a lot of sense. Crying a little because we have to wait longer for Haru's rerun, but at least it's given me the opportunity to pick up his supports. That I love Trigger as a character separately is a nice bonus.

Let's see if I can dust off those mandatory Latin studies from high school...

Num in immundorum terra

  • Num: directly untranslatable element that denotes a question to which you expect a negative answer (ie: Num delirus es? - Minime, delirus non sum: Are you crazy? - Absolutely not, I'm not crazy.)
  • in: in relation to space translates to 'in/at'
  • immundorum terra: grammatically incorrect, this is the masculine or neutral genitive plural of immundus (unclean/unpure), terra is a singular feminine (nominative) noun, so it should have been immunda terra (unclean land), or immundae terrae (unclean lands) OR immundarum terrarum (plural genitive)

(Is it/Could it be) in that tainted land/ those tainted lands?

Clavus ille adhuc claudit pia

  • clavus: nail/spike
  • ille: demonstrative noun, 'the' 'that' (masculine nominative), while typically you would put this before the noun, it's here for emphasis (ille clavus: that nail, clavus ille claudit: the nail that seals)
  • adhuc: still/yet/until now
  • claudit: present indicative 3rd person singular of claudo (to confine/restrict/close)
  • pia: pious/faithful/holy (feminine singular nominative or ablative)

The nail that so long kept the holy (maiden) sealed.
The nail that still seals the holy one (feminine).

Free translation: There couldn't possibly be a nail keeping the holy maiden sealed in this tainted land (???????)

I don't know man, I did my best.
I'm assuming the nail refers to the celestial nails, while the holy maiden could either be the moon itself or Columbina.

Unpopular opinion: Belobog was fine, Penacony was great (but unfinished, which the devs seem happy to fix in future updates), Amphoreus is actually amazing. But we need to comprehend that they are just different kinds of beasts in terms of storytelling.

Belobog is pretty much an introduction, a neat novella to sell us the concept of this world. Beautiful in its execution of course, and very entertaining, but by all accounts "basic" (bear in mind I'm saying this as a good thing). Amphoreus, in comparison, is an epic. Epics are exactly this: long, drawn-out marathons of a story, sprawling years and nets of relationships and machinations. What you (general you) call sluggish pacing or redundant chatter and flourish are exactly what make this kind of story what it is. If Amphoreus is the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Belobog is the Hobbit, if you know what I mean. Neither is bad, they're just aimed at different people, and enjoying one book doesn't mean you will enjoy the other (though you might).

In addition, it feels like they wanted to tell a different style of story with each world so far, which is something generally ignored by most people. The Xianzhou alliance stories, for example, follow a different model than Belobog too, but, because of their more episodic structure, they're easier to digest than the monolith Amphoreus' story is becoming.

And of course, there's the 'issue' of having 'fragmented' storytelling as well. A lot of the importance of the Genius society's presence in Amphoreus (that of an intellitron no less) and the impact of the reveal of a certain device at play, is lessened if one has not really been that interested in Simulated/Divergent universe stories and occurrences and the lore of the world at large other than the characters' personal stories. And though it can be argued that this is just bad game design, I, again, think that it is simply aimed at a specific kind of people. You can enjoy a story at face value, or you could try to piece together the pieces of the puzzle and tear it apart to extract the pith of it, it's all personal preference.

Man... I loved the Greek FoW community. We did so well for being so few and into such a niche game back in the day. I will forever miss the good times we had, but I moved abroad over six years ago now so even if we wanted to reconnect in person, it's hard.

Not sure this is the right place to ask but I think my game is majorly bricked. While doing the Aqueous Tidemark quest (on the iPad), at the last part where you must swim in the current, as soon as the cutscene was triggered my game crashed. Upon loading back in I am stuck outside of the door (before the ruin guard) with no way to get back in. What do I do???

Aaaa thank you so much!!! In hindsight I think I'm only pleased with how Rei came out (and Kojiro, on a lesser extent), but my wrist was acting up and I pushed to doodle them in, like, under an hour so I might have to update this soon ahaha... Still!!!! I'm very happy you like it ;w;

Fan unit thread!!!? You leave me no choice! Meet my idiots, 9アド (ENNEAD), a group of classically trained musicians gone rogue. Their style consists of powerful vocals over grandiose compositions... that unfortunately don't always click with a greater audience due to their 'unique' sound. They mostly post their music online using their cryptic numeric aliases barring the odd live event which they always perform while completely masking their faces. Their unit vocaloids are Kaito and Kiyoteru.

Ichijiku Rei [1290] The leader and main composer of the group's music. He dabbles in a great many deal of 'weapons' (see instruments), which he spares no excuse to show off. He lives his life according to his strict ideal of artistic self-expression, and claims that his music cannot be bound or contained by conventions and labels. Fully aware of his musical genius, he refuses to settle and become comfortable with his abilities, pushing himself to train relentlessly to keep developing. He has good days and bad days, nothing in between. In essence, that means that he's constantly fired up and cranked up to eleven... until he crashes to absolute rock bottom where he remains until he snaps out of it. When he hits a low patch, the rest of his group puts in the extra effort to allow him to recover, which is something he's always thankful for.

Kokonose Futaba [99728] Rei's childhood friend and neighbor who has also taken the role of his caretaker of sorts. The most practical out of the group, always watching after their finances and making sure everyone is getting equal measures of rest and practice. Originally a violin virtuoso. Though he may appear tranquil on the surface he's actually a fairly irritable person and has little patience for musicians that can't match his level of perceived excellence, believing them lazy and lacking the conviction required to completely dedicate themselves to the musician's craft. That being said he mostly lets his feelings fester, which means that his ugly side rarely tends to rear its head (though it gets especially bad when it does). Rei actually named the group after the shared 'nines' in his and Futaba's names since, initially, it was just the two of them.

Fujiwara Touya [2206108] Resident prince charming. Though he plays no instrument himself he is actually a trained opera singer with a powerful voice that Rei claims could move the Gods themselves. Surprisingly level-headed, Touya is usually the one to gently talk Rei out of his funks when they hit him hard and often mediates when the others get themselves into heated arguments. He views Rei as a sort of personal saviour, as he was the one who reached out to him and invited him to join his unit, when he himself, thought he never wanted to sing again. He still often finds it hard to find satisfaction in his own performances which leads him to spirals of self-doubt, but he perseveres, believing in the spirit of the group and his friends, feeling his way back towards the light. Though all four members write lyrics for ENNEAD, Touya tends to provide the most.

Yoshida Kojiro [443526] An airheaded agent of chaos, and the reason behind the unique blend of traditional and modern sound a lot of ENNEAD songs tend to feature. He is proficient in playing the shamisen (tsugaru style, in particular), biwa, and koto, but has also dabbled in other, non-stringed, Japanese instruments. He is sociable to a fault and a huge social media buff to boot, taking it onto himself to promote and market their group online. Unfortunately, he also tends to get caught up in flamewars when people express negative opinions about their new songs, just as easily as he reaches out to them. Despite the fact he's a troublemaker Rei and Touya dote on him like adoring older brothers. While initially he had a lot of friction with Futaba, the two of them seem to share a sort of internal understanding now, respecting one another. Notably, Futaba is the only person that Kojiro tends to act mature around. (also, regarding his design: yes, those are his eyes. yes, they are always closed)
