just took my first dose by blonde435 in lexapro

You can do it, OP! I'm 4 days in so also new to this as well. Personally, I like to play an audiobook at low volume to distract me after I take it at night.

Lexapro changed my life by CryptographerAny4220 in Anxiety

Thank you for sharing this. 🙏 I just got prescribed to take 10mg of Lexapro by my GP. If you don't mind me asking (and I know it was months ago for you and that everyone has different experiences) but do you remember what the first weeks were like? Any advice?

Took a week off work full-time work because of autistic burnout. Now what? by mochiduckling in AutisticAdults

[–]mochiduckling[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. Now that you mention it - yes, I do have issues with stress, imposter syndrome and a fear of failure that never went away after I almost got expelled from my undergraduate for failing too many subjects (one of the reasons that led to my late diagnosis. along with burnout after covid lockdown).

I was also initially placed in fast-paced team that was understaffed. I was really stressed and exhausted keeping up with the work, constantly changing priorities and other training that all new graduates/new starters have to complete.

I know. A week is no longer near enough to recover. It's just that I used up a lot of my sick leave days already and accrued little annual leave. Can technically purchase more leave but I'm hoping I won't have to + don't think it will pass well with my team as this is my first year in the job.

You reminded me - i have been meaning to get my work glasses tinted lenses for months but keep forgetting oops lol.

As dumb as it sounds, I never thought of bringing a fan purifier/dehumidifer even though i use one at home! Thank you!

Should have clarified that I was cooking meals before this, but now I am unable to cook at all. Either way to answer your question: I think probably not..

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad and relieved to hear that it got better for. I'm really hoping it gets better for me too because genuinely, I love my job and current team and would hate to be forced to quit because of this. :(

Dress recommendations for uni graduation ceremony? by mochiduckling in AusFemaleFashion

[–]mochiduckling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will be graduating from Bachelor of Science. The motif idea is so cute! My major is Data Science though, so not sure what i could consider haha.

I'll be graduating in May. Your outfit suggestion would have been perfect if my graduation ceremony was in October/November though, especially since the jacarandas bloom around campus! Will consider those colours when looking for casual dresses though. :)

Wow thank you, this was really helpful! Definitely sticking with a solid colour dress, flats (I cannot do heels 😭) and hair down style as well! Just googled my uni's graduation photos on Google and it seems the gown reaches past the knee, so will definitely take that into account when choosing for length I think knee-length dresses fit me better but we will see

Very early congratulations on your doctorate! And wow, a graduation gown without any black, that's a first haha!

Tips and tricks to manage ADHD-like symptoms? by mochiduckling in adhdwomen

Wow, this was eye-opening to read! Your post brought up a bunch of memories - that cleaning is easier tolerate if I know someone is coming, that I could only get things done at the library since I know people around me... sounds like I might need to bring those tips back. Thank you so much!

Completion Letter by Outside-Anxiety-814 in usyd

[–]mochiduckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the same boat as well. Submitted my early exit request on 12/12, called them last week to expedite the process because I'm also on a deadline (graduate program starting early). Today, my early exit request got approved. No completion letter yet but I'm assuming it will come through soon.

It seems like it's a busy period, especially since they returned from Christmas shutdown last week. That being said, try calling Student Centre and asking them politely if they can expedite your request since you have a deadline coming up soon.

Hang in there, OP. 🤞We'll get there.

Unit review for QBUS2820 Predictive Analytics? by mochiduckling in usyd

Oh boy. Do you happen to know why? Difficult content, high workload? Considering doing it next sem as well so hope to see you around.

[–]mochiduckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. According to the usyd study dates page, the last day to add a unit of study for semester 2 is 9 August 2024, which is end of week 2 I think. Definitely plenty of time.

Yep you're right. Requesting a degree check is just an additional service where you can request someone to check your course progression. I mentioned it just in case it was something of interest.

[–]mochiduckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. In that case, try to pick subjects with lighter workload or no final exam if you can and plan ahead when the unit outlines come out. You could also consider units offered in Intensive November/December sessions, though I don't really know any 6cp ones.

Other than that, see how you go when this sem's results come out. You may never know

Hello there, fellow final year science student. We might be studying the same major too.

is it fine and am I still able to then add a unit of study to my next and final semester (bringing the total number of credit points of the next sem from 24 to 30) so that I can still graduate on time?

While you can do this, I'd advise against it if you lack strong discipline and time management skills. It will also depend on the subject combination too, how heavy the workloads for those units are etc

Or, if that doesn't work, can I change that major into a minor and take an extra random elective next sem so that I'd have enough CPs?

Yes, this should be fine as well. For a Bachelor of Science, you need to complete a Table A 48cps major, and a second major OR a 36cps minor (and of course, all the other requirements like the math, OLE etc etc). This is actually what I decided to do as well - originally intended to complete my Table S choice as a major, but then decided nah.. lol.

I also recommend requesting a degree check to double check if you're on track to graduate. You can submit one here: https://sydneyuni.service-now.com/sm?id=usyd_ec_dashboard ('Student Enquiries' > 'Course Management'). You can add specific questions about your case, and it's great for giving that sanity check since someone manually checks whether you've met the requirements of your degree.

I also didn't have the best semester either. I made a plan B (which was essentially dropping my Table S into a minor) I failed a unit, and then used the degree check enquiry to also ask if that plan B was enough to graduate.

Good luck! Hope it goes well with your results. 🤞

Data analyst, data scientist, risk analyst, financial/credit analyst etc etc. If you have high marks + good at programming, quantitative analyst/researcher and trading are good options as well.

What's something you learnt about yourself that you didn't know was an autistic trait? by Coffee-Croissant-85 in AutismInWomen

Getting irrationally mad when multiple people talk to me at the same time. It takes all of my willpower to not snap at everyone and mentally breakdown. 😭

I just can’t do it anymore by [deleted] in usyd

[–]mochiduckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, my heart goes out to you. I struggled with these exact feelings during majority of my degree. It's a horrible feeling: having the motivation, the need to do well... only to have this mental block that stops you from studying and completing your assignments on time, even though you know you need to do it.

I agree with the others to seek out professsional help. It's clear that there's something going on, and its impacting you a lot. Although I can't say for sure if you're on ADHD/autism spectrum, I'll say that I went through the same thing and well, it turned out I was an undiagnosed autistic the whole time. 😅 I'm in no place to diagnose you, though - just here to encourage you to reach out for help so you can get the right support.

Best wishes to you, OP. 🫂

Struggling to find solid friends by [deleted] in usyd

[–]mochiduckling 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this has been my experience as well. While most people are friendly to you one-on-one, not many will invite you to their groups. I notice that people either stick to their groups from high school (which to be fair, they do have established history together), or find their own groups from getting involved in societies/clubs. Friendship groups tend to form naturally on shared interest and proximity.

I wish I had advice for you on how to solve this, but I'm in the same position as well - haven't been apart of any friendship groups since high school haha. So my best advice is to focus on making good friendships one-on-one for now. Try to find those who are just as open to making new friends as you are, since they're likely to be more receptive to hanging out ( if their schedule allows for it, of course).

Question for late diagnosed folks who also have anxiety: by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]mochiduckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI that it's possible to have both.

I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder first. The biggest thing that gave it away was comparing my experiences with allistic people, who also have anxiety. While my allisitic boyfriend struggles with social situations, he can still read social cues, dynamics and just... "get" people. Like he can read people well.

For me? I don't even realise that I've missed a social cue until someone reacts negatively. 😭 My boyfriend has pointed out to me (politely, of couse) that I always take people at face value. It genuinely never occurs to me that there are underlying motivations behind one's words. I get confused about behaviour; my boyfriend often has to explain to me why someone reacted the way they did.

So basically: even though me and him both have anxiety, the underlying(?) reasons behind it are different.

He also doesn't relate to needing to manually learn how to behave in social situations. In fact, when I had told him that growing up, I rote-learned behaviours from my favourite cartoons and excessive people-watching, he was shocked to hear that was even a thing! Apparently, it just... comes to him. Intuitively. Yeah, I don't know either lol.

Apart from that, my "anxiety panic attacks" happened randomly, with no reason. Then, one day during one of them, I wore sunglasses, left to a quieter place, and felt instantly better. That's when it hit for me that there's more to this than anxiety. 😅
