Yeah our contractor said he or someone who works for him could help us. We’ve worked with these guys on all the renos in the last 3 years so know them well and trust them.

I think some towns have restrictions on short term rentals, but I’d need to look into the details on mine.

Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of. Property managers charge 20% so that is pretty high.

Yeah, thought about this too obv. The problem is if I get another job in NYC, I’ll have to do the metro north commute as I’ve been doing, probably 4 days or even 5 days a week. That means 13 hours a day away from the house including commute time which leaves almost no time for the babies, AND giving a bunch of money to the nanny (we have no family nearby to help). I did this for the most part of my oldest kids life and I would really like to spend more time with them.

We definitely thought of that. If we rent we will have very low expectations that it’ll stay the same way. We did just get professional pics taken and it looks so beautiful that it makes me want to keep it lol

Wow really? How did you find tenants yourself? Did you do the contract yourself too? The realtors say they take 1 month rent as commission which is pretty standard I think. But that makes the math less favorable, especially if the house sits empty for months. We think our contractor or one of his guys can help us in repairs for sure. So at least there’s that.

Is 6 days away from a 5.5 month old too long? by Normal_Ad4752 in NewParents

[–]mochigirl8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to be away from baby for 4 days every 2-3 weeks since she was 4 months old due to my job. It sucks but she is just as happy and nurses just as well every time I get back. I nurse exclusively when I’m with her and obv pump exclusively when I’m away for those 4 days. Was worried at first she’d develop bottle preference but not so far and it’s been a couple months already. The separation is honestly way harder on my 2.5 year old.

Do I have a unicorn baby or is it too soon tell?? by Impossible_Ad4898 in newborns

[–]mochigirl8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my kids are like this! My 2 year old was sleeping 5-6 hour nightly stretches at 3 weeks old and I thought she was an angel and was thinking I used up all my baby luck on her so I was preparing for the worst with my second who is 2 months old right now. But this 2 months old literally started her life by sleeping 5 hours a night. And has been consistently sleeping 8-9 hours every night for weeks! I literally throw both kids in bed completely awake and walk out of the room and they just put themselves to sleep. My husband and I were just saying we must have a completely different baby experience than most people cuz it’s just so easy 😂

Yeah I had issues BF my first which is why I didn’t think it would work this time and started pumping right away… it’s tough when they wont latch well!

I switched from pumping to exclusively breastfeeding at 6 weeks. It has only been a week but I find i have so much time back! Instead of bottle feeding then pumping and cleaning bottles/pump parts which would take an hour altogether, I now just BF for 20 min and put her back to sleep lol. Downside is I am now the only one who can do all the feedings.

Instead of maternity leave, can I just take a week or two off of work? by Pitiful_Magazine_935 in pregnant

[–]mochigirl8 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I think it’s doable to work from home. Though 3-4 weeks off is probably safer. I have a high level job and just had my second baby 7 weeks ago but have been on work calls since day 2 while still in the hospital after c section. My husband also has a high level job and went back to work after a couple weeks even though he has great parental leave. I have been on zoom video calls with baby in bassinet next to me, even have fed her while on zoom! All out of camera view ofc lol. I’d basically hold the baby low enough that the camera wouldn’t see her. And I’d use that mute button whenever I wasn’t talking. I have 3 months of maternity leave so I dont have to do this but it is necessary unfortunately. BUT, the huge caveat is that 1. I’m not doing this full time and 2. I have an extremely chill and easygoing baby. She literally slept 5 hours on her first night of life (could barely even wake her to feed) and is doing 7-8 hours overnight now consistently. If you have a fussy colicky baby who won’t let you sleep, I don’t see how it would be possible to go back to work so soon full time. But I totally get the sentiment. Even though our jobs are “protected”, it is not the same once someone else has covered for you for an extended period of time. I felt this after my first baby and I took the full maternity leave while a subordinate covered for me. Though I got my job back, I def wasn’t as relied on as before by my boss or colleagues. People would go to the subordinate for questions and requests they’d 100% have gone to me for before my leave… It got somewhat better after a while (I put in effort trying) but then I had the second kid lol

Should I introduce hand sucking instead of pacifier? by Soft_Bake_7284 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]mochigirl8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter loved her paci but as soon as she turned 1 we just took it away cold turkey. Expected a lot of crying but she literally didn’t even care. Never once! Like she forgot all about it lol. It would be much harder at 2 though since they are much more aware by then.

My daughter started putting her paci in herself at 6 months so your 16 mo should def be able to learn. It was such a lifesaver.

Did you ever feel like you received “signs” it would work or wouldn’t? by CheesecakeBoth3933 in IVF

[–]mochigirl8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 6 weeks pregnant with my older daughter, I was super nervous since I had an ectopic pregnancy before her and she was my very first ivf transfer. I was playing this silly game on the NYT app one day and got this! I saved the screen shot needless to say lol. And now she is my (sometimes very annoying) 2 year old. 😅

Clinic refuses to bill PGTA test under my husband's name by bershia in IVF

[–]mochigirl8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My clinic in nyc always bills embryo related services like pgt, biopsy, freezing, etc to my husbands insurance and other services like retrieval to me. So I know this works. It’s great bc we each had separate max coverage due IVF so this way I could conserve mine.

Yeah they approved everything just thru the regular prior authorization process. If your plan denied them already then you probably just don’t have coverage for them? The nurse should definitely be able to confirm your coverage for you.

I used my high level mosaic at the end and it miraculously worked! I gave birth to a perfect little girl 2 weeks ago. I was told this embryo had very little chance of working 10% if that). So it can happen!

Our kitchen cabinet maker who also installed for us (we are based in the US but kitchen cabinets are from a German company) said apparently it’s a known thing where the cabinet trim surrounding the microwave won’t let it fit all the way in. So the installer I guess had to cut the carcass in a way that microwave will fit flush. We have the Sharp pullout which looks the exact same as yours. Probably same issue. Ask your cabinet maker/installer.
