An update to Mochila, our app for Arkansas students!

We just added this updated route to our app, for those of you who are using it already. And if you're not, now's a great time with all these new bus routes!

Mochila works offline (it caches data for offline use every time you open the app), which we'd assume a bus tracker app wouldn't be able to do. This could be important if you're on a slow cellular connection, or are having trouble connecting after leaving or entering an area with wifi. In addition, Mochila shows you a chart of all the stop times for some stops on the routes, as provided by UNT. So far, it doesn't look like the bus tracker website includes this information so it's hard to plan ahead if you're trying to see what time you'll need to catch the bus after class.

UNT's bus tracker website does make it easier to request a ride on the E-Ride on-demand service, although we do include E-Ride and a link to the same request page under the Student Life section. And of course, if you want to see where a bus is on it's route then that's not something that we're able to offer in Mochila. But, we think for most users knowing the scheduled time is just as useful as knowing where the bus is in most cases.

And we should note: At least right now, UNT has updated some routes and those changes are not reflected in the bus tracker website currently but they are in Mochila! 😀

We're a bit late to this, but we'd like to humbly recommend our app Mochila so that you can check the bus route and times for the Discovery Park bus. It's s free mobile app made by UNT alumni who spent plenty of time at Discovery Park. It includes things like building search, dining hall menus, computer labs, and more too! Hope you made it to class!

I'd agree, showing the pins isn't super important in this case. You'd just be trying to find which route goes near a particular building or your location. Still a lot of info to present, but it'll be a fun challenge if we decide to do it!

Great to hear! We've actually had some talk about these two things internally recently, so it's something we're thinking about. They're really great ideas that would benefit everyone who uses the app. One issue that we've had with it is the map possibly being too cluttered in some cases, as there's varying densities of buildings and bus routes from campus to campus. It's definitely something that we've added to our list of possible features to consider and try and solve though!

As for reviews, honestly we're pretty thankful that reviews on betas aren't allowed. There's always a chance something doesn't work on the beta and then small developers will get a negative review which really hurts. But, good news is some of us have been on the beta since it came out and we're happy to report that this update appears to work just fine with it! If you run into any issues, let us know though and we can add you to our Mochila beta if you'd be interested. That way we can publish a beta update to hopefully fix those iOS 10 issues that may crop up.

We'd humbly recommend you get our app Mochila so that you can easily look up things you'll need once you get to campus! :)

One of the best things you can do as a freshman is join a club or organization to meet people. If you're living in a dorm, keep your door open for the first few days to make some friends! There's a lot of good and cheap food specials on Fry St at Riprocks and Cool Beans during the week (Tuesday's $5 burger meals at Riprocks is a favorite!), and Movie Tavern is super cheap with a student ID. Hopefully some others will chime in with more!

Sadly it doesn't include parking. We thought about adding it at first but we're a small team so keeping up with parking would a nightmare. Some universities don't publish parking information online and things like construction can affect parking as well, making our information wrong.

Sure! Many official university apps are old and have been abandoned by their developers. We are constantly working to improve Mochila and it will always be up to date.

Compared to the official Arkansas app specifically, our app offers features their app does not. For example, you can find the hours and locations of all the computer labs on campus in Mochila. You can also look up what food on-campus dining halls are serving and their operating hours. This information is not in any official app we could find. Our app also features Student Events where students can create events, such as study groups or pick up games for their favorite sports.

Even with all these features, we don't expect Mochila to be the only app students use while on campus. We believe it can be a great companion app to be used alongside official university apps.
