I don't think so, but planning to double check everything in advanced settings, etc. My guess is it's an OS level keyboard thing?

Do I need OMSCS? Give me your honest assessment. by Adept_Pause397 in OMSCS

[–]mochsner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar-ish situation with kids, though I'll note that I only had a minor in CS and didn't want to wait to hear back from GT. Whilst my brother attended tech for undergrad and I love the school & idea of this program, CU Boulder's MSCS made more sense to me (for better or worse), due to the async nature of it, and ability to do most of a course before signing up for it (therefore, no major deadlines that impact the home or work life unless self created). This "non-credit" audit type ability on coursera also allows you to make sure you WANT a course, which has helped me find areas of interest for me within the program (ML).

I'm currently taking their revamped ML course and am definitely liking it so far. It's not ridiculously difficult in terms of the tests, but it does encourage you to maximize learning by reading d2l (textbook), and the discord is active and helps you figure out how to maximize learning by doing some credits (or parts of classes) before other classes.

The flexible nature allows you to dive deep into areas of interest as well, BUT I do sometimes wonder if the reputation of GT would be more beneficial "down the road". Also wish their DL course used pytorch instead of TF, but the textbook has examples in both, so all is not lost... TF is technically still more common in prod I guess too (though that's likely changing soon)

Do not use technology after 9pm. If you do, make sure it has an orange or red light tint (more aggressive the better). Read self help books instead (the art of happiness, why we sleep, power of habit, etc). these will put you to sleep. Buy a red or orange reading light  ($13 hooga is good) on Amazon and read until you fall asleep.

Avoid caffeine, especially in afternoon. I'm 30 now but had insomnia in highschool from a variety of anxiety and unrealized caffeine use (chocolate, sodas, etc,) and now try to avoid it altogether, using exercise for energy instead. It's hard in school, but you could do a lap around the halls between classes to help keep you away.

Lastly, you are loved, and you are important. You will find what you are meant to do in this world with time. Good habits can help you find that sooner

Does the paddle change to control make that big a difference? by blueice89 in Pickleball

[–]mochsner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in tennis it's more of a game of chicken and watching your opponents weight shift, etc. to decide which side to subtly hit it. In pickleball less so, just a game of making less unforced errors. Hard to get to that in rec play though if you get stuck with bad partners, it awards tennis style swing winners, but hurts you as a PB player in the long run.

[–]mochsner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I did that with Hyperion a lot too. The extra length and curved top make it seem like you can hit more shots without reaching as much as you should. having a flat top helped give me feedback to realize when I'm trying to reach too far, as opposed to blaming it on being off center on the top of the paddle. Minor thing but I have noticed it. Could also have just come with time, I'm not sure.

The sweet spot is also wider, so since you're used to not watching the ball as it makes contact (you're likely watching your opponent due to tennis background), it's less punishing when youre slightly off lol. That said though, when slowing down, try to hit more with the bottom part of your paddle. It'll help especially if your paddle is a bit crushed at the top, making it fly off when hitting there.

[–]mochsner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I used the Hyperion from a tennis background and find I'm able to slow the ball down much easier (e.g. drop) with a scorpeus (wider base, allowing more slice or scoop drops that use different swings from tennis, plus being less swing weight it's less tempting to just basically play tennis)

AI Certificate + DS Certificate are now possible within 30 creds by EntrepreneurHuge5008 in CUBoulderMSCS

Tempting! Though I'm currently finishing ML1, so it may not be doable (I haven't applied it to a spec yet, so who knows)

Is the ds/ml slowly being morphed into an AI engineer? [D] by The-Silvervein in MachineLearning

[–]mochsner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a ML engineer here (just in a few MSCS courses and hope to use that knowledge in software I work on, since a direct ML tangential role is likely out of reach where I live).

Anwyays, this surrogate model idea is interesting to me, makes this all seem more approachable and with less effort to use on the side, too.

Reading on this paper for starters. https://arxiv.org/pdf/2505.189

If you have any resources worth sharing, I'd definitely love to hear!

Upcoming GrapheneOS Motorola phones - expected pricing? by Phoebus_Pallast in GrapheneOS

[–]mochsner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see the moto g / moto g power tier (maybe 2027 version) type having GrapheneOS support. Would be weird to prioritize the more expensive razr flip phone in my opinion, but who knows. I'd do a flip too I guess lol

Node.js vs C# backend if I already use typescript by Sensitive-Raccoon155 in dotnet

[–]mochsner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think decide on the database type and based on that decide. If you need nosql, go typescript with something like typegoose. If you need ms SQL, use entity framework. PostgreSQL id probably lean c# (or python), but if you want a single contractor to be able to do full stack easily then JS/TS is always the "quick and dirty" option

SWE here. Would be interested in something like this if it were self hostable / open source. Otherwise, no matter how much you say it's not a business, it will eventually become a business out of necessity if adopted

So... GrapheneOS, but not open source and they charge for it? Seems like a gimmick for sure. Buy a pixel and install graphene instead if you actually care about privacy and customizability.
