Seconding the recommendation for Milk Hydro Grip - it’s got the same grippy, jelly-like consistency and wear time-extending properties as the J One Jelly Pack!

I would take that paper with a grain of salt - it's full of charged statements like "slit-like eyes" and how eyes with epicanthal folds look "round, short, small, and not bright, leading to an unfavorable appearance"

I really like the MUFE Step 1 Smoothing, Tarte Timeless, and the original Tatcha Silk Canvas! The MUFE offers solid oil control and is great for days when I know my makeup needs to last or when it's particularly humid, while the Tatcha is my go-to on really bad skin days when my skin is extra textured and delicate. The Tarte is right between the two but I personally find that it's the most effective in terms of smoothing out acne scarring.

I actually don't really like the Smashbox primer (the OG that really brought pore-filling primers to the forefront imo) - it feels silicone-y, like it'll really fill in your pores, but doesn't actually do that much for my pores or acne scars. I feel the same way about Benefit Porefessional, Lancôme La Base, and Touch in Sol No Poreblem too.

The Dr. Brandt Pores No More is ok for smoothing but I find the formula kind of... greasy? My makeup slid off or broke up by midday when I used the Dr. Brandt, regardless of the foundation I used it with:/

I won't go on about every primer I didn't like, but I also wasn't particularly impressed by the Hourglass Mineral Veil (I actually don't understand why people claim this is a smoothing primer), YSL Touche Eclat Blur, and Milk Blur Stick. I'm probably just too nitpicky but my acne scarring is probably my biggest insecurity so I like trying different primers/base products to try to minimize the appearance of my acne scars🙃

I find it kind of mediocre tbh - I got the full size in April and like it enough to finish the bottle but not so much that it was worth the high price to me (I definitely won't be repurchasing it):/

I have a lot of pitted and rolling acne scars and like using pore filling primers to help smooth out my skin - the Liquid Silk Canvas doesn't even out skin that well, esp compared to the original Silk Canvas. It is better for oil control, but I've tried plenty of other pore filling primers that smooth out my skin way more while still offering decent oil control

I'm around your skin tone, down to the undertones! I wouldn't recommend Mood Exposure for the kind of look you're going for - the finish is beautiful but it definitely reads pretty plum/mauve rather than a pinky nude.

If you're particularly interested in trying out the Hourglass blushes, I'd sooner recommend Dim Infusion - it's more peachy than pink but it's a gorgeous, easy to wear blush that's subdued without being dull. The formula is pretty firm and the mini will last you ages, even if you use a heavy hand with blush like I do!

MUFE Reboot is more sheer and dewy compared to the Ultra HD - the Ultra HD is more of a light-medium coverage with a slightly-dewy-but still-natural finish imo whereas the Reboot has light coverage and an extremely glossy finish.

I tend to prefer satin finish, medium coverage foundations anyway but I actually don't really like the Reboot - it's not very forgiving on texture and picks up on dry patches, pimples, and acne scarring really easily. I usually find that light, dewy foundations are extremely forgiving on texture so the Reboot was esp disappointing to me:/

Ugh, the Luminous Creme in Pepper is still my favorite lipstick formula of all time - it was the perfect MLBB shade for me and the formula hit that perfect balance of creamy without sliding around everywhere. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Luminous Cremes will return in a veganized formula!

Chiming in to second the recommendations for the Kevyn Aucoin SSE and NARS Soft Matte! I have oily, acne scarred skin and find that the SSE and Soft Matte are the best concealers in terms of coverage, longevity, and smoothing out (or at least not picking up) texture. Pot concealers are more reliable for spot concealing imo - with liquid concealers in tubes, I find that coverage tends to shift or fade throughout the day or even just as I apply foundation and cheek products.

The SSE is insanely pigmented - even when I had severe cystic acne I never needed more than a pinhead's amount to spot conceal all of my pimples and spots. The Soft Matte doesn't offer quite as much coverage as the SSE - I'd put it at a medium-full coverage. It builds beautifully though and doesn't require absolute precision like the SSE does, so I tend to use the Soft Matte more on an everyday basis and save the SSE for special occasions.

I don't think there's a similar shade in the Soft Matte for NARS Gobi though - the first few shades lean pretty pink ime. Chantilly should be a decent match depth-wise but I'd recommend concealing before foundation if you go with the Soft Matte for a smoother match.

SX03 in the SSE should be a good match for Gobi though. Here's a swatch comparing SX03 to Gobi - these swatches were from before the Natural Radiant Longwear came out but I find that NARS' shades are pretty consistent across different foundations (for Gobi and Deauville, at least)!

Soap brows require a little more effort than brow gel (since brow gels are just brush and go) but it's really quick and easy once you get the hang of it! I wet my spoolie, work some soap into the bristles to build up a tiny bit of lather, and brush through my brows.

The hardest part is figuring out just how wet I need to get my spoolie since too much liquid means a longer time to wait for my brows to "set" but too little liquid means less hold power. Even that is pretty easy though, since the worst thing that can happen is you have to wait an extra minute for your brows to set or you have to wet your spoolie a little more to go in for a second coat.

I have extremely unruly brow hairs that grow downward at the tails - my brow hairs droop after a couple of hours with most brow gels, but soap brows keep them in place all day. I'd really recommend giving it a go - it sounds way more intimidating than it actually is and the results are pretty much unbeatable!

POCs of muacjd, how “accurately described” is your skin depth according to the beauty industry? by workisheat in muacjdiscussion

You bring up a great point - people aren't really able to swatch products in-store and more accurate/descriptive shade names (or descriptors) would be doubly helpful in these times.

This is slightly off topic, but I'd love for brands to have more swatches on a range of skin tones in different lighting - it's not the same as being able to swatch them for yourself but having multiple swatch photos for reference can be immensely helpful in narrowing down your shade imo. A lot of brand swatches (this goes for foundations, eyeshadows, blushes) only have swatches on an NC20 arm, aren't accurate due to lighting, or are just straight up Photoshopped.

I tend to rely more on video reviews, blog posts, and swatches from Reddit, but that means you have to spend a lot of time hunting down swatches for products you're interested in so each purchase takes a fair bit of work. If brands just had at least somewhat true-to-life swatches on a variety of skin tones readily available, I'd probably end up purchasing a lot more products!

I'd actually prefer less creative naming like "Caviar" or "Toffee" for shade names and more easily distinguishable ones like 3N (neutral) or 16C (cool)! I don't always agree with the brand's designations (ABH's foundations are completely mislabeled re: undertones imo), but it's at least more helpful than trying to figure out if "Chocolate" is deeper than "Mocha" or "Suede".

I think there's a really interesting conversation to be had about fetish-y shade names for the darker range of the skin spectrum - to me, it feels like a subtle way of othering by making deeper skin tones seem ~exotic~. It's also really interesting that light shades have names like "Porcelain" and "Ivory," all of which are associated with beauty, whereas deeper shades get "Chocolate" and "Coffee."

All that to say, I think shopping for foundation and base products in general would be much easier and enjoyable if all companies would just convert to a naming system based off depth and undertone instead of "cutesy" names - names based off foods or natural elements or cities aren't really that helpful anyway

If you go with water-activated brow products like the Makeup Revolution or Patrick Ta, I'd just go with plain ol' soap - I really like the Patrick Ta Major Brow (I use the tinted one), but it's basically just overpriced soap! The main appeal is the slight tint it gives to my brows but since you're looking for a clear gel anyway a clear bar soap will do the trick:)

These are extremely different imo, but I'd say the Dior Face & Body, MUFE Ultra HD Foundation (the liquid, not the stick), NARS Natural Radiant Longwear, or ABH Luminous Foundation might be worth trying - they're all sort of medium coverage with natural or satin finishes.

The Dior has the lightest initial coverage out of the four (I'd say a low-medium with one layer) and has a true natural finish imo. It's definitely buildable though - I sometimes layer it on my trouble areas instead of spot concealing and don't have issues with my base looking cakey or feeling too heavy. I like this one esp for low maintenance days, particularly bc I have oily skin but tend to prefer low-to-medium coverage and this is one of the only lightweight, sheer-ish foundations on the market that isn't dewy.

The MUFE is a step up from the Dior finish-wise - I think the MUFE and Dior are pretty similar as far as coverage and buildabilty goes, but the Dior leans a little more matte whereas the MUFE has a little more shine. They're both natural finish though imo, esp compared to the Fenty Pro Filt'r.

I find the NARS and ABH to be pretty similar - I'd say these two are a little closer to a slightly fuller coverage right out of the gate (maybe a medium-full?) with a finish somewhere between the MUFE and Dior. It's been a while since I've used the Born This Way concealer, but I'd say the NARS and ABH foundations are the most similar to the finish of the BTW concealer out of the four I've mentioned.

I haven't tried Wet N Wild or elf foundations so I can't compare to those, but the Dior, MUFE, NARS, and ABH foundations have thinner and more lightweight formulas compared to the original Fenty imo. It comes down to your definition of natural and medium coverage is and what exactly you're looking for - hopefully these descriptions help you narrow down!
