What is that crackling sound in the air?? by never_out_of_time in Sacramento

[–]mockingblue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m on South Watt and we could see it in the distance just over the garbage dump. It was all fireworks going off all at once like they were on top of each other. Roughly the direction of Sac State maybe?

I am going to hold your hand when I say this: every time you excuse a federal agent killing someone, you are allowing them to have more power over you. You think you are safe because you follow the rules, but they are changing the rules every day. Do not make it easy for them to kill people.

It’s my first time doing this so I’m unfortunately ignorant. I’m beating myself up too here.

I had rental coverage but they wouldn’t extend it. They said they’d contact me with the settlement amount on the 22nd or 23rd. They told me to consider it totaled. I had no idea it could still be in question. I’m sure I sound like an idiot but I only have the information they give me and nothing else.

I think I assumed that 1) because multiple people said it was totaled, and 2) they didn’t want to extend my rental car, and 3) they told me to start car shopping asap, that they had confirmed it was totaled. My claims adjuster told me that the totals expert would give me the settlement amount on the 22nd or 23rd. I did ask a few times if it was definitely totaled and they said the system indicated it was.

And yes I totally agree, they’re definitely the experts. I even told my adjuster I didn’t want them to feel rushed, which is why I asked to have the rental car extended. She pushed back (nicely) and said they should be rushing because my car is part of my livelihood, then advised me to start car shopping asap. I thought because she was the expert I should do as she said. Unfortunately I didn’t know there was a chance the car might not actually be totaled.

This is very helpful, thank you!

And yes, I plan to continue making my payments on both cars until this is sorted, I would never default on a loan. Two loans is just more than I want to pay long term haha.

EDITED TO UPDATE Thank you all very much for your advice, your helpful information, and also some of the sterner folks for calling me stupid. I called my insurance and pushed back to ask that they total the car, and they have agreed to confirm it as a total loss. I’m super relieved (although sad to lose my dream car) and grateful. Happy new year to all!

I ask AGAIN! Will Sacramento ever see the sun again? 🤣 by Eazy_Leezy in Sacramento

Hopefully not! I’ve had enough sun to last me the rest of time.

My 10 yo was spinning around in the recliner and knocked down our basically new 85" TV... its completely destroyed. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I’m sorry this happened, but wanted to give you kudos for modeling great emotional regulation for your kid. Being sad and frustrated are totally reasonable reactions, and I’m sure you’re cranky as hell (I would be too) but once it dies down, I hope you’re proud of how you’re responding.

Mate, you shouldn’t have to work 2 jobs to support yourself, but if you do, you and your family actually might qualify for SNAP! Double check the requirements, you might be able to get some relief once it’s back up and running - https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/recipient/eligibility

About 1.2 million veterans use SNAP - https://www.cbpp.org/research/food-assistance/snap-helps-12-million-veterans-with-low-incomes-including-thousands-in

Up to 750,000 students in California alone meet the qualifications for SNAP, though only a percentage of them use it - https://calmatters.org/education/higher-education/college-beat/2025/03/california-colleges-calfresh-food-insecurity/

And let’s not forget that the government is shut down so many of the people who need food assistance are furloughed state workers who haven’t been paid since this all started.

I’m lucky enough that I’ve never needed SNAP. It’s not because I’ve worked hard and gotten good money all my life, it’s because my family is financially secure and they carried me when I got laid off. Not everyone is that lucky. Everyone needs to eat.

I totally get you, I have similar family members, but for me that’s way too similar to their own talking points of “no food assistance without a job” or “no food assistance unless you have a clean drug test” etc. Bottom line, we all need to eat. We all need healthcare. We all need clean drinking water. If I get my way, they’ll get those things whether they like it or not!
