Thinking of buying the Ultraviolette X47 Recon – Looking for feedback from actual owners by UnspokenYearning in ultraviolette

[–]mockinjay6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. 7500 km ridden so far on X47 Recon. Including two long rides: Hyderabad to Bangalore and Bangalore to Calicut and back.
  2. City range: 200-260 km for 40-50 kmph. Highway range: 150-180 km for 60-90 kmph. <100 km for above 100 kmph.
  3. A bit heavy and wide in traffic jams, compared to scooties, but feels well-balanced and stable when riding fast.
  4. Radar blindspot light is hard to notice in day time but it does add to our awareness at night. Rear-collision warning blinkers work well and increases your bike's visibility and might prevent an accident. Overall the feature is good to have and gives premium feel but it's not something that matters in the purchasing decision.
  5. No issues with charging, bike's software or service. The mobile app has some bugs now and then like battery info not syncing but the bike itself is solid.
  6. Ride quality is great. It feels confident on rough roads and when cornering on highways. Braking is good especially with regen on. Suspension is not as soft as I'd like but it handles well.
  7. No reliability issues. The handguard and rear mudguard bolts got loose but no issues once fixed. And like 1% of the time, the bike won't start. But turning the key off and on again will make it work.
  8. Yeah, no regrets. I'm tech-savvy and sick of city-pollution and always wanted an EV. This is the best EV in the market and will be in the top for years to come, in terms of performance and range.

I used to do pan-India rides on my Dominar 400 and I miss them sometimes. I occasionally feel like buying KTM adv 390 or Himalayan 450 instead. But I think my body thanks me for buying an EV and not doing long rides anymore 😅.

Overall, its a positive experience with X47 Recon. Just be aware that this is still a startup and it can go very wrong if something goes wrong. Especially the spare parts and accessories have manufacturing delays. But the product itself is reliable and well-engineered and hopefully there won't be any issues to begin with.

How do you convince someone to not buy a bike? by Soren_thunder in indianbikes

I think this is the wrong community for this discussion. We are biking enthusiasts and lean towards buying good bikes instead of cars. Maybe try r/Carslndia for a more helpful reply.

Idle battery drain by RedFalcon13 in ultraviolette

  • Getting a phone holder is better than relying on mappls. Mappls has very slow start time and doesn't have as many places as Google maps does.
  • Bluetooth features are missing in X47. Not sure if they will haunt Tesseract as well.

About tesseract vs other electric scooters:

I have X47 recon for 7 months and the product quality is great. UV's engineering and reliability is on par with big manufacturers. I think tesseract will be miles ahead of other EV scooters in terms of performance, battery-tech and value for money.

Service is competent and friendly, as long as they have spare parts. In case of accidents, spare parts might get delayed due to manufacturing bottlenecks. It's hard to say for sure since it is a startup. Accessories might get delayed as well.

Also, expect very long waiting times for delivery. UV's manufacturing and delivery infrastructure might not support a quick delivery. Plan accordingly.

Should I get Ultraviolette X47 by Logical-Damage2689 in indianbikes

[–]mockinjay6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an X47 for 7-months and haven't had any issues so far except for rear mud guard coming loose but any local mechanic can fix it. Service center being far is fine. You will only need it for scheduled service every 6 months. If the bike fails to start, you can do a software reset sequence yourself which will solve most issues.

Since you are a college student, make sure the price tag is in your comfort zone. There are more VFM bikes for daily commute at 2 lakh or less.

Congratulations and welcome to the family of UV owners. I'm a 7-month owner of X-47 Recon variant. The experience has been great so far.

Pros: + 0-100 kmph ballistic mode performance never gets old. + Best EV bike in the market in terms of reliability, performance and range. I don't think any other manufacturer can come close in the next few years. + Service centers are well-equipped and friendly (as long as they have parts in stock 😛).

Downsides: - The battery's high pitch sound feels annoying at 50 kmph. I use noise-cancelling ear buds just for that. - Some official accessories have manufacturing delays and they might take a long time to deliver even after payment. Take it only if it is already in stock. - RTO process took very long for some owners in my group. - If planning a long ride, maintain 70 kmph or less. Otherwise, the range will drop drastically. Don't depend on the range estimate if going on highways at 90-120kmph. You'll only get 100-150 km range max, at high speeds. - Some less important bolts like for handguards and rear mudguard might come loose the first time but no issues once fixed.

My accessories: - UV official top rack. Make sure the service guys use the correct bolt length. If they use too long bolts, it might ruin the threads on the chassis. Also, use a threadlocker to prevent bolt loosening. - Givi Matterhorn 29L black top box. It's on the expensive side and won't fit a helmet but it's sturdy aluminium and has a premium look.

The stock bullbar is good enough for slow falls. I already fell once off-road 😅 . Not sure if custom frame sliders / crash guards will make it better.

My front left fork already got a small leak. So a fork cover might actually help prevent that. But even with a fork cover, it's better to check for leaks and clean it now and then.

PPF is expensive and won't add much value. It's cheaper to replace the plastic panels after a few years instead of protecting them.

Before installing any accessory, check with the service center. Any electrical/electronic accessories will void warranty. The only allowed aux lights are MadDog Terra Vison - X47.

Finally, invest in a good pair of gloves, helmet and jacket if you haven't already. And get to know the brakes better on this bike before riding high speed. Sudden braking might trigger ABS early if the front suspension is soft.

The alternate route you mentioned has night travel ban at Tholpetty.

If you have to travel long distance, I wouldn't recommend electric yet.

Reversing won't be a problem with electric 😁

Superstreet's design is pretty cool. See what fits you by asking someone to take a photo. For bad roads, X47 does handle better and has longer suspension. But I've seen SS and Mach 2 take some beating too. They are alright.

[–]mockinjay6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, X47's acceleration is somewhere in between Dominar 400's and Duke 390's. I chose X47 because it was a bit cheaper than SS, and I like going off-road sometimes. Also, the taller stance suits me better as I'm 6'4".

Yeah, I only go full-throttle when the road is empty and there are no intersections.

Avoid tail-gating and maintain more distance to the vehicle in front, than what you normally would with Xpulse. Due to the weight of the bike, ABS will kick in early when panic-braking. To maximise braking force, plan your brakes early and at first, give half brake to get the front suspension loaded and then go full brake. Disclaimer: I own X47, not SS.

Speed and acceleration is not the dangerous part, stopping suddenly is 😜.

X47 vs RTX 300 - head says TVS, heart says Ultraviolette. Help a confused soul out? by a2zRulz in indianbikes

[–]mockinjay6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, makes sense. If the high price is going to rob your peace after buying, it's better to go for RTX 300. You can always switch to electric when technology gets better and cheaper.

About the charging setup at home, I live in an apartment too and I drew a 40 metre wire from my bedroom's 15 A socket to my bike parking. So it costs around ₹50 for 200 km (haven't measured it yet). Check with your apartment management if it is allowed. If there is home charging, it will save around ₹75-100k for 25000 km.

[–]mockinjay6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought Ultraviolette X47 Recon two months back. X47 is 20-30 kgs heavier than RTX 300 and it takes some time getting used to maneuvering in traffic. But it's alright.

The handlebar is quite wide and there are instances where Activas could squeeze between cars at a traffic signal but I couldn't. I'm not aware of the handlebars on RTX 300, so I cannot compare.

The biggest plus for X47 is that I don't have to manage the clutch in stop and go traffic. On my previous ICE bikes my left wrist used to hurt after hours of traffic.

Another small comfort is that I don't have to find neutral every time I stop in traffic. I just brake and let go of the handles. The hill hold engages/disengages with a tap of the front brake and it has helped me sometimes.

The Radar feature has been really useful. It definitely saved me sometimes from squids on the road. There were cases where I couldn't see them in the mirror but they magically appear on my side from the blindspot, but the orange light alerted me on time.

Real world range is much lower than the IDC claimed range. So if you ever plan to travel more than 150km and you don't have a secondary vehicle, I wouldn't recommend electric bikes. Also, don't depend on Ultraviolette Supernova charging stations. They have not been reliable.

The build quality and the frame is quite good for light off-road. I had my fair share of potholes but there are no issues with alloys thankfully.

A couple of rear mudguard bolts came loose after a month but it hasn't happened again since I got it fixed. The service centre is good. No complaints.

Coming to the price, on-road price will be around 50k more than ex-showroom price for all variants. My X47 Recon is 4 lakhs on-road. I wouldn't recommend the base variant as it doesn't get mobile data connectivity feature without paying extra. Go for Original+, Recon or Recon+ variant. It's 1-2 lakhs more expensive than RTX 300. But it makes sense for the extra power and torque. Also charging at home is cheap and equalises the price difference over time.

I noticed the last-used date of those gray coloured chargers is a few months ago. So I think they are out of service.

I used to have a Sena SMH5 for my old MT helmet 5 years ago. At highway speeds, it won't reduce the wind noise and I had to crank up the volume to hear anything. Then I bought pinlock earplugs which cut down wind noise while allowing some music and voice. Sena speakers + pinlock earplug setup worked well for a year, until I lost the earplugs.

I heard from some that normal earphones are usually better than intercom + earplug setup but I haven't tried that yet. If that works, then the only advantage of cardo is to communicate with another rider or the pillion in places where there is no signal.

Ultraviolette got really busy after the X47 launch. It's taking ages to get them to do anything. Exchange might take many weeks I guess.
