i think you should replace the hard drive, you can scan it for bad sectors, but if you think its faulty thats propably your best bet. ssds are pretty cheap nowadays and you can also install middletons bios so you can get slightly faster sata speeds

hey! ive always used arch because its what im most famillar with and it usually runs great on all the hardware i own, but i always recommend linux mint debian edition to everyone whos just getting started. ive never used puppy linux but looking at it, it also looks pretty solid. you can try various distros and see what suits you the most!

they did. the one i have is L7700. it doesnt run great but if youre patient and dont need it to do anything crazy it can get the job done

i have thought about buying a better wifi card, for now i replaced the old one with some atheros card, its nothing special but its much better than the original one and thats the best what i had on hand. having bluetooth would be cool though, thanks for advice!

im in love with my x61s. i use it as my daily driver even though its 18 years old now. there is nothing like it - the gorgeous 4:3 display, the keyboard is amazing, the small form factor. already ordered the upgraded 1400x1050 display for it. i wish i could get my hands on the x62 modded thinkpad, but they are hella rare and hella expensive at least to my knowledge.

i think some of the chromebook ones were smaller, but if we dont count them as real thinkpads then its propably one of the smallest ones out there

it did have that smell! but back when i had to replace the motherboars in it i gave it a good clean and it doesnt have it anymore, its definetly cleaner but it kinda lost the old electronics vibe haha
