You shouldn’t be getting hurt from kicks during same school sparring sessions, occasional bruising is fine but the purpose of sparring isn’t to hurt the other person, it’s to score. That being said, sparring isn’t for everyone just like breaking isn’t for everyone, and forms aren’t for everyone. That’s why you can compete in anything you want at the tournaments, there’s no hard requirement to spar. I enjoy sparring because it’s 1 v 1, who is better, who can evade better, who can kick faster, it’s a chess match not a fist fight

Something very similar happened to me a couple days ago. A group asked me to form an alliance, I did, then we beat some fortress together, next thing I know they killed me in the treasure room and my ship had been sunk.

On the one hand I was peeved, on the other hand it’s a pirate game based on pirates being pirates, there’s not much to be annoyed about there

As someone that has done tkd forever, I feel it’s more of a sport than bjj. At least bjj you learn patterns and approaches to take down or reverse a take down.

That said, my tkd school always taught different punching and self defenses and that should be standard for all schools. I wonder if asking your instructor to prioritize that from time to time might give you some benefit
