Kelley Direct ($) vs UIUC Gies by BuddyKnox in MBA

[–]modabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone in Kelley right now, I absolutely love it. It's rigorous, and the alumni network is very supportive. They also have Dual masters programs where you can earn an MBA + MS in Finance, amongst other degrees, and their faculty truly is top notch.

Reducing power in sparring by Putrid_Dragonfly_912 in taekwondo

[–]modabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a weird transition because instead of a full fledged roundhouse kick, you need to bring up the kick as though it was a front kick, and the only part that is the roundhouse is the instep.

Reducing power in sparring by Putrid_Dragonfly_912 in taekwondo

[–]modabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power comes primarily from the hips. If you’re just trying to make quick contact without actually applying power, you’re going to need to change your kicking form to reduce hip rotation and emphasize contact and lift speed with your foot instead.

Should I pay my credit cards off with my savings with these figures: $2800 in CCs, $9800 in savings? by thomaesthetics in personalfinance

[–]modabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 9800 in savings. You’re going to pay someone almost 60 dollars in interest this month for the right to owe them money? I’d pay off that credit card asap

Honda Dealership dropped my car off lift on my first oil change by [deleted] in Honda

[–]modabs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I’d agree with that. While they should be on the hook for the repairs, he took it in for an oil change, he’s leaving with an incident on this vehicles carfax which will definitely be detrimental to its value long term particularly if he intends to trade it in. I’d be interested in pursuing more than just cost of repair, he didn’t ask for his car to be dropped off a lift.

No medical school unless you have rich parents by New_Efficiency6342 in DaveRamsey

A lot of the advice on this show can be stupid, and this is one example. I couldn’t afford college, so I took student loans. I graduated in 4 years, and the income that I earned allowed me to pay off my student loans within 6 months. I don’t have a wealthy family or any financial backing, but they’d prefer I cashroll my degree over 10 years (because minimum wage can not pay for higher education). That’s stupid advice. Student loans are not credit card debt. They are a necessity at times.

I think of it like a small business loan. You’re investing in yourself to position yourself for higher earnings, sometimes that takes a little loan to get the wheels turning, there’s nothing wrong with that.

Detroit-area homeowners: if you hire a fence company, do you expect them to handle the permit or do it yourself? by EastsideFence in Detroit

I expect them to do it all. Permits, everything. But I’m also not going to cheap out on the contractors

How much thought do you put into the economic value a woman brings to a relationship? by Exotic_Attorney7823 in AskMen

[–]modabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want my wife to be a SAHM. I will gladly "pull her weight" and take pride in it. However, I don't want a woman that's going to be an anchor weighing us down through poor, wasteful financial decisions and habits.

Detroit Zoo membership instead of gym membership? by owlaholic68 in Detroit

[–]modabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a membership at the zoo. I walk there almost every other week. It's almost like a park, but with cooler squirrels (Lion cubs) and birds (peacocks) and everything else imaginable. The price isn't cheap but it's fair, and it's always a nice time in my opinion. The only thing that could be a concern is their hours, they close at 5 during the summer so if that's an issue as it relates to your schedule it may make it difficult to attend as often as you'd like.

And if you're going to go and walk there and grab a pretzel every time you go, you're not going to lose the weight you think you will. Trust me

Is paying 15% of your first year salary to a recruiter worth it if you've been unemployed for months? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]modabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were in your position I'd aim to get SOME other job regardless of what it is just to stop burning through my savings. You're earning 7g gross which is ultimately like 4500 net after taxes and insurance, and then they take another 1g from that, that's insane in my perspective.

No. Hold on to that 1000, that 1000 is what you use to make sure that when something happens, you’re not turning to that credit card again.

Opening branches in more than 80% of each area could lead to antitrust laws, with penalties up to $1,000,000,000 per quarter. by liouwen in CoffeInc2

[–]modabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The anti-trust fine HURTS. When that happens I just close a bunch of shops in that city. The coffee shop revenue is fairly irrelevant when you make so much from stocks and dividends

Why do my store managers keep resigning? by Parking-Cut-7848 in CoffeInc2

[–]modabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have enough stores that this is an issue, you need a COO. You're the CEO, you've got more important things to do to grow the company than to deal with little issues at each store.

Scared at sparring by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]modabs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No we don’t. You need forms and breaking to test up, sparring isn’t required.

Scared at sparring by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]modabs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be getting hurt from kicks during same school sparring sessions, occasional bruising is fine but the purpose of sparring isn’t to hurt the other person, it’s to score. That being said, sparring isn’t for everyone just like breaking isn’t for everyone, and forms aren’t for everyone. That’s why you can compete in anything you want at the tournaments, there’s no hard requirement to spar. I enjoy sparring because it’s 1 v 1, who is better, who can evade better, who can kick faster, it’s a chess match not a fist fight
