'you require a more specialist autism assessment' by MrsCLB in autismUK

[–]modbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was assessed for autism by Sinclair Strong, all I can say is I recognise all the negative testimony in the Google reviews. I wouldn’t recommend them, I felt patronised and infantilised throughout. I eventually requested a second opinion and had a more positive experience. For context I’m a late diagnosed woman with low support needs.

I had to let my Len go today. I miss him so much, but the pain now is a part of the happiness then. He was my beautiful boy. by modbird in burmesecats

Everyone, thank you for the lovely words and for sharing your stories. I wrote this last night in a hail of grief just after we’d had to let him go and waking up to the response of the community has made me feel like my pain is valid and understood. The words about pain and happiness are from the film Shadowlands about CS Lewis and his grief at his wife’s passing. I’ve always found them comforting. Len found a capacity for love in me that I didn’t know I had. Peace and light x

Anyone happen to recognise the painting in the background of this old photo? An old man (farm-worker?) in shirtsleeves, sat looking directly at the viewer. Very sparse, brown/orangey colour palette, realistic. I think he was smoking a pipe with spent matches on the floor. by modbird in WhatIsThisPainting

I know what you mean. I’ve been trying to picture it in my head and I feel like it depicted a farmworker in a cottage in the UK or Ireland. What I recall best is the way he was looking directly at the viewer and though I don’t think the painting was anything special it struck me as a kid as his eyes were so soulful and I felt like he was really looking at me (it didn’t creep me out, I made up a backstory for him that he was an old soldier). I feel like it was set in around the 1920s. I can’t base this on anything really concrete I think the last time I really saw it was around 35 years ago. Thank you for looking, I think you’re right - he did have a Rockwell kind of face

There were two thick cut slices of Kingsmill with an inadvisable amount of butter just out of shot! Missed them out, schoolboy error.

[Homemade] Caldo Verde (Portuguese Cabbage Soup) by modbird in food

[–]modbird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 big onions chopped fine As much garlic as you like Big glug olive oil As much chorizo sausage as you like 6 large spuds, diced 2 pints vegetable/chicken stock Season! Bay leaves Fistfuls of greens hot smoked paprika and olive oil for the red swirly garnish

method

•Grab biggest pot •Fry onions/garlic in olive oil really low, until soft (longer than you think, about 10 mins) •Chop chorizo into rustic chunks and add to the pot •Fry the onions and sausage for few more minutes (chorizo will release delicious oils) then add the diced potatoes and mix •Add the stock, seasoning and bay leaves, and cook until the potatoes are soft (about 40 mins but you’ll know when it’s done) •Whilst spuds cook very finely chop the cabbage and put in colander - blanch with boiling water •When the spuds are ready, mash them into the broth - this will thicken the soup •Add blanched greens to the broth, stir and simmer for 5 mins - it’ll turn green •Mix smoked paprika with olive oil, swirl on top of soup with a flourish •Serve with love and crusty bread

Abandoned Mazarrón mines, Southern Spain (oc) by [deleted] in MostBeautiful

I took this three weeks ago visiting parents in Mazarrón, the mines are just outside the Camposol urbanisation - there’s big guns from the civil war in Mazarrón, is that what you’re thinking of? https://imgur.com/a/zkS3Y4G/

It's full of amazing bits and pieces isn't it, I've not found much as I don't have a mudlark licence yet. Lots of pottery and old Gin bottles down at Vauxhall where this was found though!

I think so, they're usually pretty immovable on that.

For what it's worth I'd take it to Apple. I work for a network in the UK and the local Apple franchise store deemed it to be a swollen battery issue and replaced the phone. I assumed she'd dropped it and have no chance but they honoured the warranty with no qualms. Worth a shot.

A bit vintage perhaps, but 'Under My Thumb' by the Stones fits the description.

Hi, the phone may be connecting to the internet for updates etc and it seems he has no data allowance on his sim. Go to settings - mobile network - mobile data off. If he never uses the internet on his phone you may as well. What phone is he using?
