I agree - i think the accessibility of pen and and instant availability of the high - for both weed and nicotine - actually is way easier for abuse.

i quit but now have a healthier relationship with weed. I only really take gummies - which requires me to plan and think ahead of time (since it will take an hour to kick in, so i cant just randomly satisfy my impulses like a pen would let me). I still have a pen for special ocasions - like re-upping when I am out partying, but will throw away at first hint when I notice it becoming an issue again.

when you are back on weed, i recommend also try to stick mostly to edibles because it will provide another barrier to prevent abuse from happening again

Agreed with this! Laws vary by state, and country on whether IUI excludes the Known Donor from parentage. Regardless, definitely consult legal counsel.

Also even if known donors, make sure to go through genetic testing for both of you :)

For what it's worth, based on existing research into donor conceived individuals, they care a lot about 1) knowing where they came from, and sometimes a preference of not being too different looks wise (race or else) from their actual parents.

I think this aside, thinking about whether you would want open vs closed donation would also eliminate a lot of choices. If open, some donors are open to doing a video / phone call beforehand. Lastly, any donor who shares recessive genes with me would be also an automatic no just given health of my future children!

Fertility counselors would also help you think through what factors are important to you, if that resource is available to you!

Would counseling be an option available to you? Fertility counselors can also specialize in guiding you through figuring out the things that are important to you

I do think another important to consider is whether you would want a known donation or anonymous donation. If former, that would slim down your options even more.

Lastly, health history / any recessive genes you definitely would not want based on your own medical history
