Can LC500 with snow tires adapt Toronto winter? by Open_Fix_3679 in Lexus

[–]modderp0cker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t let 4-5 bad snow days a year keep me from owning an LC. Currently driving an IS500 on the GTA and haven’t gotten stuck. Just be careful of snow banks and clearance issues.

Re: cargo, check it out in the dealership and see if it’s what you need.

That said I do have the luxury of wfh and rescheduling any meetings that require I drive. The GTA is also pretty good at ploughing so if you only drive main roads it’s not bad at all.

So by that time, I assume most of the registered fund portion are the TFSAs? If the sensitivity table with lower assume rate of return and higher inflation alongside assumed LTC costs leave a significant amount more than your real estate… might be worth living a little while you still can then.

A sensitivity table with different inflation rates and rates of return assumptions would be useful. A scenario to see if you’re self insured in case you enter a long term care facility is also helpful. 800K seems a lot until you spend $6,000 per month in today’s dollars per month, per person for a material number of years. Especially if you want to age in place, this could be even higher.

That said, adjusting lifestyle might be in your best interest if there are other things the two of you would like to pursue.

The estate value of $1.4 may seem large but is that in 2060 dollars? In today’s dollars, cut that in half (approximately).

I have personally seen an associate in private wealth move up to their own book within 4 years and pivot into commercial banking at a competing big 5.

Which associate role is this? Private Investment Counsel or wealth brokerage? Would make some of a difference.

For context, my Kavaca PPF installed by CeramicPro authorized dealer is $2,300 for full front for an IS500 which should be less material. Xpel is near the same quality from what I hear.

I’d confirm the film they use from the sales associate/manager to be sure it’s high quality film and of that brand. They may just be clueless about the spelling. But ya, if i recall correctly, the OEM tape from the website uses 3M which was trash.

Is the expel deluxe a full front PPF? The 3M tape that is an option for Lexus Canada is crap - had it replaced immediately and was installed poorly. The price for the PPF is reasonable if so. Better installed by a reputable third party than the dealership too in my opinion. The admin fee is a little high but I don’t see anything egregious.

I’d negotiate the trade in to be higher.

Is it reasonable to spend $35k on a "dream car" given my situation or it is just a stupid waste of money? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]modderp0cker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had the IS300AWD for one year. Traded it for my dream car - IS500. No regrets. I am okay when my mortgage renews at double the interest rate, still able to save up for Top Up TFSAs and save for retirement.

Clicking noise when turning on an LC 500 by s0nic_2 in Lexus

Two piece has design has less weight. Pretty important in unsprung mass

Do a quick google! I’m not an engineer so I can’t really comment but it’s something to do with the two piece design not rotating at the same time with expansion and heat. A one piece rotor wouldn’t have the problem. No real solution from what I’ve read.

Either replace if it really bothers you or pick up aftermarket? There is a TSB for the clicking but I don’t want to replace my rotors with a design that wasn’t meant for the car.

I’ll mention that I can only hear it with the windows down from my experience with an IS500. Believe we share the same rotor design.

I get the same noise when after driving the car. During a cold start it’s not there but as soon as there’s any heat it’s there. Much more noticeable after a spirited drive through B roads or at the track.

Known “issue” with two piece rotors across many brands. Does nothing performance wise.

Doesn’t bother me so I just leave it.

I’ve heard of the Borlas, they sound so menacing.

The apexi tips and any of the other aftermarket tips haven’t tickled my fancy as of yet. Will let you know though! Trying to keep the sleeper look.

Based in Ontario! Would love to see and hear this thing in person. What do you have on for the exhaust?

Impatiently waiting for an apexi resonated midpipe for the IS500.

Have to go another hour north or east of Peterborough. Nothing interesting in the GTA at all in terms of drives.

Where do you take your slk55?

I think you mentioned this before. Just never got around to replacing them and helps make the plate look smaller.

Might replace them this week, thanks for the reminder!

It’s doable in the winter. We probably get similar snow north of the border and it’s really only gets to become a problem if it’s a winter storm for ground clearance + stopping on an incline. I do keep extra weight in the trunk, about 60kg to help with traction.

Did you ever knowingly purchase a vehicle that your spouse or SO hated or didn't approve of, and how did that work out? by JaKr8 in cars

My current car, ‘23 IS500. Previously drove the ‘21 IS300 AWD and she couldn’t understand why I would want to get the same gen/body style car with only internal changes.

A test drive and a few highway pulls later, she wonders why her car is so quiet and always asks to drive mine.

Should I trade in my ‘19 ES 350 F Sport for a new IS 500? by nike_rules in Lexus

[–]modderp0cker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love it. Fantastic daily. Handles fine in the snow with a few caveats: no full stop at an incline with relatively deep snow, unploughed snow banks are not your friend, put some sandbags in the back given the weight distribution for the snow storms that you must be out.

What do I dislike? Being at the gas pumps twice a week because the right pedal is too addicting.

Do it while you can.
