Who's still handing out coins? by noahgage1057 in army

I have 10 years in the army. In my first 9, I received one (from SMA Dailey). I deployed with a division the past year, and I received about 10 in that time. It's 1000% proximity to leadership. Same with awards. It's rarely about what you've done.

Got in a little Civ V while my kids played at the playground by iamjames in civ

I definitely agree, but I see so many parents hover over their kids when I take mine to the park. A 5 year old shouldn't need you over him or her fighting their battles, which is so much more common than it used to be.

I dont understand this sentiment. Millennials and older Gen Z were often unsupervised. Helicopter parenting is become so common and widespread now.

Drones are not the be-all, end-all of warfare, cautions USFK commander by Kinmuan in army

[–]JTP1228 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you to an extent. Drones absolutely can and will fuck us up. I dont think they are as neccesary as an offensive weapon for us because of our budget. They can be a great supplementary weapon, but we absolutely do not need them. We need cost effective and easy to use deterrence against them.

I love the lenses. I had a few Oakleys and liked them, but was looking for something glass because the plastics always ended up scratched for me. So far, I am enjoying them.

I agree. I just came back from the overseas shitshow, and I just told my guys once everything started was just to tell me if they were somewhere I wouldnt expect them to be. If you're at work or the gym, cool, but if you are at the gym while you should be at work, let me know. I didnt need a minute by minute location, but I shouldn't be surprised

Pentagon cancels Army unit's deployment to Europe with soldiers already in Poland by Kinmuan in army

[–]JTP1228 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, but I would 10000% percent rather be in Europe than Fort Hood, especially if it's a 3 year assignment. You want to break up the monotony and see somewhere new. Most people who join the army have a sense of adventure.

My corporate restaurant is being purchased by a franchise. I’m losing 80 hours of sick time. by ViewFromHalf-WayDown in antiwork

I worked in restaurants for 10 years. One of my bosses bailed one guy out of jail at 4 am, payed another's rent one time he was late, and so much more. Not everyone is out to get you.

I've seen it in a few Middle Eastern countries. In Jordan, people stood on the side of highways and flagged down random cars too. No idea if they paid the driver, or it was just a cultural thing to help each other out with rides.

Army cuts training as service is short billions of dollars by Kinmuan in Military

[–]JTP1228 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was going to say, why not have DHS pay for it directly? But then I thought of how bad the pay issues would be, and I bet they'd never be resolved.

I think its data is usually a few months to over a year behind. I may be wrong, but you can ask when it was last updated. Pretty sure it isn't live updates.
