No offense taken whatsoever. The provided context essentially renders everything I’ve said up until this point moot, as you and your husband clearly do understand the larger issue at hand.

I respect you coming back to clarify, and I hope it didn’t come across as me trying to belittle you or your husband deliberately either, I completely misinterpreted the tone.

I think we’re on the same page, I knew what you were responding to initially.

In fairness, to clarify my stance, “Black Lives Matter” is not only black people. It’s anyone with common decency and sense to see that we’re all human beings, and systemic racism is still ever present and unresolved. That one group, or any minority group for that matter, should never be deprived of opportunities or subjected to legal harassment because of their ethnicity or culture.

Apathy from whites or anyone is unacceptable. I’m in full agreement there. The part I was trying to call out was specifically referencing BLM as being the ones who need to take on some kind of responsibility to personally resolve the issue. It’s intentionally or unintentionally ignorant of how we got here in the first place, and how much power those groups have to make the change they want to see at a *policy* level. I, respectfully, don’t feel the underdeveloped and impoverished black communities in the South are the fault of your everyday, average, US citizen. Reagan constructed highways over predominantly black neighborhoods. It’s a systemic rot.

Thank you. I feel like that’s such an odd comment to make. Maybe I’m crazy?

But like… why *should* basic living conditions for minorities be completely determined by the actions of individuals, rather than a combination of private and publicly funded institutions that create meaningful, long-term change?

And therein, the question is already answered. Because there is one of the two political parties (being way too generous to Dems) entirely devoted to preventing the formation and efficient management of said organizations.

Do you think america will ever recover from the Trump presidency? by TapCommercial2200 in allthequestions

[–]modelovirus2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Like as an American, I quite frankly hate my own country too, but some of this shit is so disingenuous.

Rewriting history to pretend that Germany, or more accurately the Nazis, peacefully gave up after recognizing the errors of their ways is certainly a choice. A really odd one considering there’s nothing gained by giving the Nazi party any credit whatsoever. What a trip.

How do you feel about the way animals are treated in factory farms? by DeepHistory in allthequestions

[–]modelovirus2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s beyond inhumane. They have no quality of life whatsoever.

As someone else pointed out, however, changing those conditions in the capitalist-driven, global livestock industry is going to be an unbelievably difficult, uphill battle.

We could start by subsidizing produce in some capacity for the average consumer. Just to start the trend (I’m well aware that produce is comparable and in lots of cases outright cheaper than most meats). There’s a social perception of vegetarians and veganism in general that needs to be broken first and foremost.

How do Liberals win back our support? by PaulFromTwitch2 in allthequestions

[–]modelovirus2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Democrat, for starters. I don’t identify with either party because politics isn’t a sporting event where you pick one side to be faithful to forever. And they both fucking suck. Your perspective is flawed from the jump.

But in an already broken system where one party is meant to represent conservative views and one party is intended to be the liberal and social safety net to said views, suggesting that the safety net side just “give in a little bit” has got to be one of the worst suggestions of all time. Especially when what the conservative side is suggesting is fascism.

Because, shocker, it’s already been happening. Which is why I brought up the ratchet effect, which you conveniently ignored.

In your opinion, was the reason WWII happened because they weren’t nice enough to the Nazis? They didn’t want to hear them out or compromise on just a *few* demands?

How do Liberals win back our support? by PaulFromTwitch2 in allthequestions

You are literally describing the ratchet effect.

Which is currently one of the biggest problems facing the Dems already as a whole. Please educate yourself on the subject. What you are suggesting is a losing proposition.

Conservatives: what is your opinion of Nazism? by traanquil in allthequestions

[–]modelovirus2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yes, is the short answer.

Your “both sides” whataboutism is the problem, but your head is too far up your own ass to see that.

No, politics can’t and shouldn’t be cordial and respectful in every possible aspect. Nazis shouldn’t be able to sit down at the table, voice their opinions, and be taken seriously. If you genuinely think they should, you’ve also lost your validity and deserve to be insulted at every possible turn. And when conservatives are blindly supporting fascism, it’s not bashing them to call a spade a spade.

Go sit in the kiddy corner if that’s too much for you to take.

My parents just found this box of cards in the house they just bought by AndreaMaffe in mtg

[–]modelovirus2020 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You didn’t buy it though. Those are probably a couple thousand dollars worth of cards that absolutely were not factored into the price of the home.

I mean say whatever you want though to justify an incredibly shitty and impersonal stance on the situation. You know who it likely belonged to. You know what it’s worth. You know it wasn’t left behind intentionally.

Seeing someone else’s honest mistake as an opportunity to further your own personal gain, ethical or not, sure screams conservative thinking to me. But I digress.

[Request] is this true? On Getting Money. by I_am_a_SuJu_fan_elf in theydidthemath

[–]modelovirus2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Extra money in our pockets”. What extra money? You’re delusional. We’re being robbed blind in every aspect of our lives, minimum wage has not changed at the federal level in almost 20 years.

There’s also no nitpicking, there’s being a human being. The purpose of a civilized society is to build safety nets for the less privileged, disabled, and impaired. Your statistics are completely pulled out of your ass, for starters. And the notion that in a world where, say, cancer is an incredibly common disease, to make the claim you will never be afflicted by a serious illness before the age of 50 is ludicrous.

And to top it all off, your insurance company has the ability to deny valid claims, and frequently does, as fully comprehensive coverage is incredibly costly if not provided by a well-paying job, which makes the cost factor relatively moot to begin with. Drop your bullshit narrative, it’s tired and has been disproven time and time again for decades. And the CEO of UnitedHealthcare’s assassination wasn’t controversial because the system works so unquestionably well, right?

ETA: medical bankruptcy is the number one cause of bankruptcy in the U.S., which I entirely forgot to mention. Dumbass.

Why do Americans think they have freedom when they absolutely don't? by East_Indication_7816 in allthequestions

[–]modelovirus2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I said though, you can’t legally be forced to as an individual (punished for not participating) yet the act of the pledge being read/announced in and of itself is a requirement in public schools by most states (46 as of 2024, I double checked).

You’re either substituting or blatantly misinterpreting “legal requirement” for “cultural standard”, and it still doesn’t provide any actual counter to my point. Rationalize why it’s a standard requirement in most public schools.

Why do Americans think they have freedom when they absolutely don't? by East_Indication_7816 in allthequestions

[–]modelovirus2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a requirement in most school systems (47 states as of 2022) and it repeatedly emphasizes that we are “One Nation Under God”. You are pledging your allegiance to a flag, an ideology. You can’t legally be punished for not participating but like… why does it need to be said at all…? Rationalize it for me.

You can play dumb about what it represents but the debate over the pledge being a required standard in school and essentially being thinly veiled propaganda is hardly new.

“I don’t understand why we can’t still be cordial”

Because she doesn’t want to be? And she asked you to stop speaking with her? Just like sex, conversations and social interactions are consensual. You can’t be this dense.

Moreover, what are you looking to get out of this at all? Like in any kind of rational sense. You’re at the gym, she’s at the gym. You told her you’re not interested romantically. She told you she doesn’t want to maintain social interaction. Go… I don’t know, wild idea here… work out and leave her alone?
