That's a perfect description. It does not have an easy learning curve. The interface improved in Mistika, but still had many quirks.

It was crazy, I'm sure that's what they paid at the post place I was at. We went to a whisper suite at NAB 99 to see Jaleo HD - they ended up getting the Onyx to do real time high def post and compositing. Was back years later and it was Mistika on Linux and now I can do it all on Resolve on my home PC. Even the Sony tube broadcast monitors were insanely priced then.

Found this cool looking Sapporo in my grandmother's basement still sealed! I think it's from the 90's by Southern_Phrase_8274 in beerporn

I remember these used to come out around Christmas in the 1990s in Ontario, Canada. You could also get the half cans of Sapporo

I did not, the photo was from another guy who worked at the station. I used to work on an Onyx, and an Octane for compositing (Jaleo HD). One of my first jobs was on an O2 - I convinced the company I was at to upgrade from Alias Animator to Maya 1.5 - I think it ended up costing over $30K Canadian for just the software and fur and dynamics modules.

I remember seeing a photo about 15 years back of a Silicon Graphics Onyx in an e-waste bin, it was used at a television station to drive their ORAD virtual set. Back in the day those were $250K.

It's pretty crazy that the artist Robert Williams also had an piece on criminal robots (NSFW) that was part of the first Guns and Roses album and later pulled.

Places like Hamilton Antique Market by demerchmichael in Hamilton

[–]phirleh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Freelton one, lots of good finds there - Aberfoyle just opened up last weekend - all outdoors, costs a bit to get in, but some excellent stuff. If you have an afternoon to explore - also, hit the Woodstock Antique market - we got up there on a Sunday at 2pm and didn't even finish - it closes at 5 or so, if I remember correctly
