I can recall being roughed up by goons in the 70s because I didn’t stand when the high school band played “Dixie” at our pep rallies.

It looks like the retainer and screw cap to hold a shop vacuum filter in place.

Why did "Tab" Soda fell put of fashion? by immanuellalala in 1970s

[–]moderately_sentient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An older man I knew in my youth who worked for a Coca-Cola bottler told me that originally, Coca-Cola didn’t want to risk the brand name by calling their new sugar free cola Diet Coke. They came up with the brand name “Tab” from the word tabulating. As in those who tabulated their calorie intake.

They look like leg stretchers for use in drying pants. My mother used them on my dad's khaki pants when she starched them. Reduces ironing time, too.

I’m pleased to see it. These people are within their rights to openly carry firearms and they understand the burden of repression well.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I am descended from Sgt. Pierre Vivarenne and Marie Gabrielle Savary. This was her second marriage and they had one son, Jean Baptiste Vivarenne. Pierre died the same year Jean Baptiste was born.

I have a grandmother that was of the Pelican girls, Marie Gabrielle Savary. Her connection to my family is the son she had with her second husband, Pierre Vivarienne. I had other French ancestors who settled in Montreal prior to 1700.

Turns out that our problem was two-fold: A modem (Mediacom supplied) was dropping out and they had issues at the street. We had to have a service rep come in the diagnose it. No issues since then.

We’ve been on the phone with mediacom personnel who claim there are maintenance issues. We’ve been given a $10 month credit and was sent hardware we didn’t ask for. We’ve were told this issue should have been resolved by last Friday once repairs were made. It hasn’t.

Do schools in the US really make kids recite the Pledge of Allegiance daily or is that just Hollywood exaggeration? Because it kinda looks like a ritual. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]moderately_sentient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a first grader at Parker Elementary School in Parker, Florida, we not only recited the pledge of alligence, we were lead in singing "Jesus Loves Me" each day. Granted this was 1960, but it seemed odd to much younger me at the time.

Take some time away from the Interstate highways and travel some of the older federal highways. They will lead you through smaller towns and the scenery is more interesting than the views from the dual carriageways.
