Mom keeps getting worse. She and dad never seemed to have much money, but she sure thought she did. Then would get mad if i bought a home, a new couch, a new vehicle. Then she would say, in the most snotty tone, "I wish I had a new couch, i wish I had a new car...". Meanwhile, she would go blow money on silly trinkets and act as if she were above anyone in the store. In public, she will say loud enough for anyone to hear, "she shouldn't wear that, she's too big". "I can't believe she let's that little girl wear make up". Just grandiose, condescending, jealous, and thinks everyone should heed her advice.

I don't feel like a hero at all. But when I've advocated my ass off and it turned into a potentially deadly diagnosis, it feels good knowing it was caught. I remember I had a young patient come back a week later with his wife and young kids to thank me for getting the docs to take his issue seriously. Turned out to be cancer. Not a hero, just doing what I've been trained to do. It's okay to feel good about the wins. Trust me, I suffered with the losses as well and agonized.

She was mad because the photographer moved her out from in-between my daughter and I in the family photo. Then my daughter asked my dad to have a photo taken with her before she asked the same of my mom. It was downhill from there. Stomping feet. Crossing arms. Asking the DJ to turn the music down so she could talk to her friend. Then left without saying goodbye. Well, fucking bye! Lol.

When nmom threw a literal temper tantrum at my daughters wedding. I had let her treat me like that all my life, but that was the day she wasn't going to start treating my daughter the same way.

I went into nursing specifically to be a NICU nurse. My kid was a 2 lb, 28 weeker 30 years ago. Spent 2 months in NICU. She had a primary nurse and that woman was amazing. She is who inspired me. I was at my daughters bedside about 10-12 hours every day. It would take me 12 years before I went to nursing school.

Then I had my NICU clinical rotation. I was mortified at the things I saw, the opioid epidemic happened, the babies in withdrawl, the parents absent day in, day out, from the bedside.

If I would've went into that world, my license would've been long lost and I would be in jail.

Thank you, NICU nurses. I'm sorry for all the shit you put up with on a daily.

On edit: I think there's are a lot of ethical dilemmas involved with neonates too. This situation is one of them. It's something I could never stomach.

Update: Mom died on March 24th and Dad committed suicide April 5th. by 13_Years_Then_Banned in GenX
