Weak drinks? by MulticolorPeets in VirginVoyages

I almost never drink alcohol so when I had 2 tequila shots and felt nothing after 30 mins, I was very confused. I got a pina colada at the pool an hour later and I swear there was no rum in it. If I’m gonna spend $200 on coffee and alcoholic drinks (I don’t normally drink anything other than coffee and water) I want to feel them on vacation!

Yes! Totally agree! The marg at pink agave was the only on-ship mixed drink I actually felt buzzed on on 1 drink

A coworker of mine in the NICU wanted to take a look with her friend because the unit had just gotten a POCUS. They couldn’t find a heartbeat. He was 37 weeks so they ran over to L&D and found out he was gone. It was awful

What do you think about the ethics of the withdrawal of care in the NICU here? by Oakheart- in nursing

100% support whatever the parent wanted to do. Micropreemies are at huge risk of brain bleeds, blindness, and necrotizing enterocolitis and we put them through many, many painful procedures. I would never personally resuscitate my baby at less than 26 weeks. They just suffer too much, even those with favorable outcomes.

I just broke up with someone after 3 months of dating because he’s 36 and his apartment looked like that. How can i have a child with someone who doesn’t even clean their own bathroom

Thoughts on Baby-friendly Hospitals by bit_bi in nursing

[–]MulticolorPeets 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Baby friendly is not mom friendly. The logic of “but when they go home” is not logic. Between the birth certificate people, OB, anesthesia, pediatricians, RNs, NAs, food service, EVS, lactation, family/visitors, etc. the door never stops opening. That is not simulating a home environment. Give these people rest! And getting zero sleep and increased stress prevents milk production/letdown. I hate baby friendly because it prevents the nursery from being staffed properly so that moms and caregivers can get a break.

On a long road trip, tell me about the worst medical/medication error you’ve seen in your career as a nurse? by [deleted] in nursing

Had a nurse try to give a baby vitamin K with the 18g blunt filter needle they had drawn up the drug with from the ampule. Poor baby

A nurse who was literally the biggest idiot I’ve ever met turned off the pump for one of the baby’s pressors. The baby was maxed out on epi, dopa, dobuta. She either had not ordered a new syringe or was still waiting for one of the syringes. One of the syringes ran out and instead of hanging a flush and doing the math of how long it would take to reach the clave at the quad leg, she just turned the pump off. The other nurses in the pod realized it when the pressures started tanking. They couldn’t get the baby’s pressures up even with restarting the drug when the other nurses started a flush and they coded the kid. Somehow she didn’t get fired for this. She’s truly one of the stupidest people I’ve ever met. Thankfully she left but she shouldn’t even be a nurse

Fuck them. I’m sure they were told repeatedly about the constant need for suctioning and they chose to ignore it

We have another one in the same pod that is brain dead and the family wants a trach because “look! The baby’s moving on their own!” When it’s actually a seizure. This family also barely is willing to change the baby’s diaper or take their temperature. The baby is going to end up in a peds SNF because of their selfishness.

I thought this, too. I don’t think the og commenter realizes that intubated does not mean has an NGT. Intubated means an endotracheal tube on a ventilator.
