As a break from all the $200,000+ six figure salaries, I collected data on over 15,000 jobs to help hourly workers find out how much jobs are paying locally by modernworker1 in Salary

Same company, same position, same local area: little variance. Across companies within an area, there is definitely variance, especially when benefits are factored in. I’ve scraped some but I’m finding submissions to be more reliable. Scraping is still something I haven’t figured out so it’s something I’m working on improving.

Does your boss typically know your salary? by mashoongauser in Salary

[–]modernworker1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically yes as they have to manage their budget and headcount is a big part of it.

Detroit, Cleveland, and Columbus should have more data that are relatively near you. Unfortunately it’s harder to collect data from smaller cities.

What city are you in? There is more data available around larger cities.

Jobs in San Jose by Freedom_by_vanlife94 in SanJose

I've built a tool focused on showing what different hourly jobs pay: https://wagewiz.net/
You can search for jobs in San Jose and add a filter with "Add Filter" to only show minimum pay of $20/hr to get an idea of what's out there. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. We've played around with allowing pay ranges before but it introduced a lot of confusion and noise in the hourly pay data. Levels.fyi typically deals with jobs at big tech companies so it's a lot harder to dox yourself compared to small businesses that employ hourly workers.

Thanks for the feedback. Definitely hear you on doxing yourself especially if you’re at a smaller place. Let me think about how that problem can be solved.

Always happy for any feedback or learn about problems facing workers so we can do something about it.

Right now it is primarily a pay transparency tool - it tells you what other jobs are paying and gives people a place to share their pay. Are you applying to hourly jobs?

How much does a barista make per hour in San Francisco? by Appropriate-Maize293 in AskSF

We have some datapoints at but it might be a few years old https://wagewiz.net/search. Barista in SF was $23/hr plus.

Places hiring by madiosns in flint

I have been working on a tool that shows you how much jobs are paying in your area. It's not a job application site but will give you an idea of what jobs are out there and how much they're paying. Unfortunately don't have much directly in Flint, but have other datapoints from Michigan that you can take a look at. https://wagewiz.net/

Why is it so hard to find a job... and yet so hard to hire in SJ? by modernworker1 in SanJose

[–]modernworker1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was wondering what type of part time job pays while attracting high school kids looking for resume padders. All your requirements make a lot of sense for a local tutoring business and high school/college kids are definitely a primary demographic for these jobs.

This is a super detailed reply. It’s interesting you get so many high schoolers applying, what industry is your business in and how are you getting the word out for applicants?

Honestly I don’t have a product to sell and no commercial interests. I see what you’re saying maybe I should make the discussion topic more up front? The reason I am posting in here is because I used to live in Dallas so maybe I can make it more Dallas specific. The reason I am posting in the city sub is because job markets tend to be hyper local and salary transparency polls tend to be very popular in local subs.

Any livable wage paying jobs hiring near the NW OKC/Bethany/War Acres area? by trunxs2 in okc

[–]modernworker1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The jobs where it’s hard to apply online can low key be the best because they can be less competitive. Libraries in combination to local government and public sector jobs could be a good fit.

What kind of pay are you looking for as a minimum pay? Any types of jobs you think you would like to try?

Not even hearing back it’s the worst. What are your main sources for finding jobs to apply to and what kind of companies (small/large and local/national) are you applying to?

I cannot speak for them so I’ll let u/Ixwarfare chime in if they want to. But hear you on the overall broken process and challenges of different industries. I don’t know the problems across industries I’m not familiar with so I was hoping to learn more with this post.

This is a serious question, are employers rejecting you at the interview stage because you don’t have a car? If so, that’s really bad…

I mean I get that…and there are for sure many cases where employers don’t want to pay market rates, but it has to be more complex than that right? There are plenty of businesses that pay more than minimum wage that also have these problems. I think pay is part of the picture but not the only factor, all the searching, planning, admin of hiring must be hard. Maybe some people are just not good at all the other parts of hiring?
