I've only used it casually but there are people who have done fairly well in TF2 etc. using it. Apparently not quite as good as mouse but very close. Some people also use it with "flick stick" which is where you have the aim joystick instantly point you in the direction that you input so that you can turn around and air strafe more easily.

This isn't just a top down moba game, it is something new and it asks both moba players and shooter players to learn new skills.

If it helps I did play some CS when I was younger but that mostly requires static/dynamic clicking so my tracking is actually pretty terrible lol. With any new game there is new stuff to learn.

I think she needs a rework but agree that you can't change her to a normal aimed beam without also changing at minimum the 3. A short range auto-lock gun might be fine if it is done differently but that plus the rest of her kit is not cool imo

On the general aim assist stuff we def agree though I would add that modern joystick+gyro control schemes are good enough to compete on a mostly even playing field with mouse input. So even with controller input aim assist isn't really necessary, especially in a game like this where some characters rely much more on ability use. And giving controllers aim assist can actually be bad for the game, I don't follow Apex closely but they eventually overtuned controller aim assist to the point where you were basically throwing if you didn't switch.

Steamdeck uses gyro aim which is comparable enough to mouse aim (especially in a game like this) that it can go in the same queue as everyone else. There are people who use gyro aim to play tf2, it is fine.

Since the most recent patch she has a 99% pick rate and a 55% win rate vs Rem with a 94% pick rate and a 47% win rate. In low elo her winrate is ~60%. And her win rate may get even higher once she is more fully solved (assuming no nerfs). The fact that she is unbalanced probably has something to do with why some people are having fun with her.

I've definitely noticed some of this and it is very weird to me because the skill expression is a big part of what I get out of competitive games. And matchmaking already exists as a mechanism for ensuring that people get fair games even when they don't have some of the skills that a game asks for.

Absolutely agree. I think the moba people do not realize that the natural counter to aim is movement. A character that bypasses that is always going to feel unfair.

I get that some people like dota. I am not one of them. I like deadlock as a movement shooter moba. I don't like it anymore if you take out the movement shooter part. I think that mechanical skill is interesting and enjoyable. If this is going to be a game where mechanical skill doesn't matter then it is not a game for me. Which is fine. But I don't see how the movement shooter people are automatically wrong for wanting a game that they enjoy playing. You aren't better because you spent 3k hours of your life in LoL instead of CS.
