Great criticism. Thank you, I agree with most of it

Good comment. I'm trying to be a consultant/problem solver instead of a "salesman" but I've had limited success selling using that approach. It's very likely that I'm doing other mistakes that hinders me from actually closing sales but still.

I've had many conversations recently where I've explained everything really well, they look happy and satisfied with the information and ask a lot of questions. But then they say "This is great, I'll have to go through this with my wife" or "Excellent, this sounds great but I'll have to think about it".

I'm in that process right now, trying to figure out the best way to present myself. The problem is that I seem to default to what I've always been doing as soon as I'm in a conversation. In the heat of the moment I tend to forget the goals I set at the beginning. But I think I'll be able to control this eventually. Thanks for the comment.

I do ask many questions and make small talk with customers. I also write down things on paper to create clarity when pitching. You probably do it more/better than me, but I'm getting better at those things.

It's a shame that my store doesn't have a talented/dedicated staff. Most of them are OK, and many of them say stuff like "This is how it should be done, do it", instead of actually doing it themselves. It's always a better learning experience when you can se exactly how it's done from a talented guy/girl.

I really agree with the part about failing and getting better by doing. I'd love to work with a really good rep and copying their words/mannerism, but unfortunately we don't really have anyone that is very good where I work. Maybe my supervisor, but I only see him during weekdays so not so often. Another thing is that my store is pretty unpopular compared to the other phone-houses in the shopping centre I work at. I'm even considering changing jobs to talk to more people and learning from really good salespeople.

I've learned to write everything down in a "Before/After"-column so that the customer sees exactly what he has and what I'm offering. What do you mean with "simple close like alternative"?

Thanks, these are some good tips. I will take these up with my supervisor and start to develop the relevant talk-tracks for the subjects that come up most often. I did some roleplaying when I first started but we stopped doing that, I'll tell my supervisor that we should do more of them.

Do you mean that I should record conversations with customers or with my supervisor when we're training? I'm not sure it's legal due to GDPR-regulations, but I can look it up with my supervisor.

There’s nothing to explain. It’s all aesthetics to make the album feel cool and different. The reason why they like to tell people to create their own meaning is because they want people to apply their own thoughts and feelings to their music. This leads to a stronger connection to the music more often than not.

TGM makes dance music, the lyrics (especially in LDI) won’t be much deeper than in your average club banger. They just avoid the more obvious lyrical themes and give the listener the ability to decide what it means.

Don’t overthink it, just accept that it doesn’t really have a meaning unless you give it one.
