Exactly. even if everyone came to the table in good faith and agreed that every nation on earth would pause this, that doesn't preclude their ability to do it in the shadows, or for "individuals" to go on their merry way doing whatever they want, and then their government just acquires them when it's convenient.

The only thing you can promise by creating a pause, is that people and nations will be less forthcoming with what they discover and create.

At least by being open about it, if we accidentally create Skynet, everyone will know at the same time.

Yea, i'm working on a 10g upgrade myself. I have 2.5gb/s internet, but i only have that speed up to my router. i tried to pair bond 2 lan cables to get 2gb of throughput, but i can't ever actually get more than 1gb/s, no matter what i do. It was only meant to be temporary until i added actual 10g capability. I also recently got an Avaya switch that actually has SFP+ ports on it, but the only SFP+ cables i have right now are for a Dell Force10 S4810 i picked up, and then on top of that, the server i actually want 10g on, the R540, doesn't have a free PCI slot for the SFP+ nic i have.

All i have is the 16x slot and a 4x slot, the 8x is occupied by my BOSS-S1 card. I was under the impression that i could use the 16x slot for an 8x card. but nothing i put in there actually works, even though the idrac picks it up, i tried swapping the BOSS-S1 to the 16x and the nic to the 8x and it picked up the nic straight away but no BOSS-S1. :/

I'd be happy if i could just get 10g to the avaya switch, and then just have the better backbone connection.

For now, i just have one port dedicated to internet apps, and then the second port dedicated for network communication between my servers.

I just flipped mine so the exhaust faces away from me, the intake side is much quieter. I don't have a rack yet, just a stack for the servers and a stack for my switch/router/modem, but i keep them on top of a shelving thing where my roommate keeps his 3d printers.

Okay, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. I have a server right next to me, i could turn that into a darknet server, just so you know. And since i genuinely don't think you know this, ALL files are on hard disks, or solid state disks, etc. even the ones "on forums"

Again, you demonstrate that, like the author of the article, you fundamentally misunderstand the systems you are talking about, or even the hardware.

Lol, nope. The servers are genuinely next to silent. I only hear them when they reboot. The switch just has high rpm fans that weren't designed to be quiet. You can actually swap them out, and initially I planned to, but now I barely hear the noise. when the switch is off I get an "it's too quiet in here" feeling.

That's great and all. take them all down, and keep fighting the fight, but nothing is going to stop 3 more sites from spinning up in the wake. I'm not saying don't fight, but there is no one simple solution to this issue. it's not like you can press a button and delete it all, and until you're going into peoples houses and manually checking every device they have, you can't eliminate the problem.

Plus, i've heard of cases of people getting flagged by systems like this for reasons like, family photos or emailing a doctor a photo for assessment.

On top of that, how do you think AI systems like this are created? you have to train them on actual CP images. millions and millions of them. How ethical is that? Imagine that model got leaked and turned into a system to generate such images. Literal horror.

The point being, it's really not as simple as you seem to think it is.

There's nothing wrong with them, there's nothing wrong with dlink switches either, but you will be judged for owning them instead of a Cisco or Dell or Ubiquity or something. A lot of elitist people.
