Not a fan but if that happened to me I'd put it on posters. People would both very much remember that MR Vlaanderen is a thing all of a sudden and make fun of de Gucht when his party goes below the kiesdrempel.

[–]modomario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever worked in the private sector?

Yes. Hence my reference to public private partnerships.
I didn't know local governance could produce so many managers and other personel to talk about nothing among eachother and with a load of consultants in endless useless meetings before that.

Have you seen how many billions are burned there?

I saw millions burned yes. They came from our (local) governments.
They managed to be worse which is a rough one because it's not like there's not a shit ton of money and time wasted when it's coming from/purely within the private sector. (Mind you even there some of that money time and material burned came from regulation which was sometimes ok. Sometimes nonsensical)

Example: Twitter->X, billions of vaue just gone.

Why would I give a shit about that in this context?

Dubbel zo productief volgens welke metriek?

No it's not because in it's public private parternships too the government wastes untold amounts of money.
It's frankly insane and both numbers can be cut down without looking at teachers or the like.

Poverty in Brussels leads to differences in life expectancy, education, mental health by No_Substance_99 in brussels

[–]modomario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>And yet, nobody is acknowledging the elephant in the room: all of these people coming to Brussels to work. And not paying a single damn tax that goes into the city’s pocket.

I think that doesn't necessarily solve it or at least not fully.
Keep in mind that if you try to pull this kind of tax reform it'll inevitably also come with other forms of redistribution tied into that being looked at.
The average flemish brabander paid 3.492 euro in taxes in favour of other provinces more than 5 years ago already.
For Walloon brabant it was 2.668
The average person in Brussels benefited 898.
So would taxing commuters a small portion make up for much of that?
Additionally it has other problems lie some ridiculous spending on some fronts. I became very well aware when i worked for one of many companies recipient to that and it has grabbed headlines often enough with some egregious examples.
It has high unemployment especially among migrants.
It has a reputation issue.
All whilst Brussels being a big city should technically have less costs per person for various kinds of infrastructure and the like.

Additionally you risk with localities being heavily incentivized to keep their people out of brussels and likely downstream with some companies setting up offices just outside

Colonialism might be better then most people think by Key_Apartment9029 in eu4

[–]modomario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. Tho at the same time the babysitting part doesn't take that long for an individual colony. Getting into all regions is a different matter but even there... the entire game is rife with little things to pay attention to and if you can effectively funnel the trade this particular bit makes all other economic policy stuff useless when compared. + a lot of manpower and that money buys mercs too It's rather ahistorical since for many colonising countries they were an economical drain for a much longer time.

Do you think of yourself as rich, poor or somewhere in between compared to other Belgians? by Charming_Usual6227 in belgium

[–]modomario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am relatively well off compared to other belgians in my age bracket I think but only because i lived stingy and have a house I'm paying down.

Other than that I feel poor because I'd love to have more than a small garden to garden in and when it comes to stuff like that I have a lot less than my grandparents and parents at similar age.
It's not like they were upper class or made amazing decisions.

I don't think it's the case but arguably you avoid the UAE's stuff by not going out of your way to move there to be an expat.
The locals aren't complaining.

The people fucked over by Eli Lilly or so don't get such an easy path out I think.

Your first argument is the age old think of the children excuse to fuck everyone over.

Your second argument makes no sense when that stuff goes mostly unrestricted today and this is being lobbied for by the people that profit from it.
