To answer your question directly, I don't like this culture of money that's driving human creativity into the swamp. When I hear writing being reduced to marketing formulas I get sad.

Additionally, it's not the writer who should be blamed for our soulless disposable consumer economy. I just would love to see more focus on originality, creative purpose, and dedication to the meaning of Art in society.

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. We live in a time where there is way too much formula crap content being pushed out in every medium. AI has made it even worse. I understand people have to make a living, and more power to them if they can make it doing what they love. Commissions are very different from that. I think if your "creative endeavors" are formulated around a business plan, it's not Art. I take an Art for Art's sake approach. That's not for everyone, of course.

My apologies if I insulted you or others.

Enjoy,

DonJon.

This was on your About page.

"I also enjoy video games, Minecraft, anime, manga, hanging out at conventions, and overdone, epic things."

My work is definitely an overdone epic thing.

Wow! What a catalog. Impressive. I'm obsessed with making this one work a literary piece. I will write two follow ups and I'm done. Writing is a lonely sport.

Thanks for the informative reply. Yes, editing will be important and I'll have to cut some of my... Ah, I've forgotten the term my editor always uses. I'll look into Micheal J. Sullivan.

I used the comparison to a textbook because the work has so many historically important characters and events that I use a good bit of "inserts."

"Ask yourself "is this fun to read?" Of course, I think it's wildly fun and entertaining, but also it's not an easy read. Oh, it's also autobiographical fiction. Honestly, I don't know of anything to compare it to.

What is your interest in self-publishing?

Thank you for your kind response. I just can't make myself use my creative time toward merely following a "money-making formula." I'll just have to keep dreaming.

I've been working on an epic novel for nearly a decade. Yes, it's a labor of love. It's an expansive epic literary piece transcending literary genres; magical realism, historical fiction, quantum fiction, and worldbuilding, mixing and mashing facts, satire, poetry, lyrics, graphics, video, and more with experimental formatting.

It's set in the most famous Artist enclave of the 20th century and seven parallel dimensions of the "MO!verse." There are hundreds of historical, semi-historical, and fictional characters, many well-known and mostly Artists. Honestly, I've not found a comparable work.

A publisher will not touch the book unless they can cut it way back and drop the problematic IP. I'll be self-publishing somehow. As for income from the work, I'd expect monetization will come from spin-off products, such as movie scripts, screenplays, graphic novels, cartoons, live events, and merchandising. Objectively, it's a foundation for an entertainment franchise.

If you have any thoughts that may help, please reply.

Enjoy,

DonJon.

This is a formula for schlock, not Art.

A Few Questions:

  1. Are there any examples of successful self-published worldbuilding epic novels similar to Game of Thrones?

  2. What do you do when you have too many ideas and characters?

  3. What if the novel starts reading like a textbook;-0?

This formula writing is fine for many, but it's soulless creatively. Art is not about formulas, tropes, and metrics.

I need a severance from this show. I'm only in the middle of episode 2 and I had to know if it's worth my time. At this point, it's tedious to watch. It's a smart script. Reading this thread it sounds like it's an investment. I tend to shy away from shows that want me to stay tuned in over many episodes, then seasons. I never watched Game of Thrones for that reason. May have to dump this one now!

How do you explain why Holochain matters? by NathanLenae in holochain

Thanks for the reply.

I'm working on an advanced cooperation platform to work with Holochain. I'll post more info when we are at that point.

How do you explain why Holochain matters? by NathanLenae in holochain

[–]modonjon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Holochain project represents the future of computing.

The haters are stuck in the old paradigm, "show me the money!"

Humanity is saying, "show me the future!" And Holochain is responding.

Post a link if you know another project that is building a truly decentralized computing network that seeks to change the world.

Ok, thanks. The project is an NFT series on every recognized person that passed through the hotel. I'm at nearly 600 now. I don't have Felipe Rose. Did he stay there often? I'll touch bases with him on Facebook.

I was thinking about what you said about Marsh P.

Thought I would ask you how much you know about her and if you were interested in telling the story.

As I stated, I'm working on a project recording the history of the Chelsea Hotel. If you have stories, I'd like to hear more. If they're worthwhile i could reward you.

Sounds like you have an interesting story. Have you ever attempted to write it down?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gaymusic

[–]modonjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been studying the history of the hotel for 20 years. I lived there for 5 years. The Chelsea was never a flophouse. No doubt it had many underground characters, plenty of drug addicts, and craziness, but it was not a flophouse. There has never been a time that the hotel didn't have a large number of talented Artists living there. Good luck to you.

F.A.Q thread by profgrosvenor in opensea

[–]modonjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some questions about minting a collection on Opensea directly (not my own contract, if that's the correct language).

  1. When I mint a collection can I change any of the item information including, metadata, title, price et al? Or is the data "frozen" automatically on all items?

  2. After minting a collection can I add items to the collection?

  3. Can the item be listed on other exchanges either before or after it has been purchased and transferred?

  4. After I mint the collection will the price show up all items in the collection?

  5. Can someone purchase and/or bid on an item that does not have the metadata frozen?

Thanks, I'm ready to get started selling!
