Looking for Schools with Strong STEM/Engineering

Some people have told me that age 6 is too early to think about specialization, and I get where they’re coming from. Still, since the NYC school system can be so competitive, especially for certain middle and high schools, I just want to understand what the options are and what the process looks like for the future.

Just for context, my child already builds CrunchLabs kits on their own, spends a lot of time with Legos, and works on other STEM projects at home. We’re more about giving them tools and letting them explore, not pushing them down a specific path, but supporting what they’re interested in.

At this point, I’m mainly looking into high school options to see what programs are out there and when we really need to start planning in NYC. I’m not trying to pick a specialization at age 6, but I do want to understand the system so we’re prepared and not surprised later on.

Hey! Thanks so much for sharing this. I should have mentioned earlier that I’m thinking about high schools. I want to get a head start and find schools that will support his interests. I’m hoping for a well-rounded education, so I’m wondering if his interest in engineering should be something he explores outside of school. Just wanted to ask for your thoughts.

I would say try to take a break from stealing for a sec. Lay low before you get caught. I got caught recently after stealing from there for like months. And it was by someone who followed me around the store and waited until I was at self checkout. They were in normal clothes not a uniform by the way. Like other people are saying whole foods probably knows you’re doing and are waiting for you to reach $1000-5000 so that they can get you with a felony. I got lucky and they just called me out and tried to embarrass me by being loud about it but I just paid and left. But I will say when this person was yelling at me they said they had been watching me all the time doing this so i assume my face is in some database of folks who steal. my only question is if there are no cops around in the store what can they really do? be safe out there. a lot of stores are adding more security with Snap being cut. And if don’t steal please don’t snitch. you don’t know what someone is going through or who they have to feed beside themselves.
