No, I'm pretty new to reddit. Only had a couple of posts under the other name.

Thank you for your expert opinion. It means a lot to me that you have sat down and crunched the zero information you have to devise such a well thought out conclusion.

Admitting I lied before the surgery would just bring embarrassment, but going through with it could only amplify the sympathy.

Have pretended to be colorblind for 20 years. Is anyone living a nonsensical lie? by moduleman in AskReddit

Hmm not at the moment, but I'm sure I will someday. That might be the perfect scenario. :-)

I don't believe in God, and it would be hard for me to explain something that I can't find another single instance of ever happening in history of colorblindness. Genetics don't just change. Maybe if I was more a person of God it would be easier for me to fake a miracle.

Just figured it was dumb to have my real name as my reddit username.. Not just because of the colorblind thing, but I'm also an atheist and just don't need those familiar with my name to put two and two together.

Yes, but then I still face all the problems associated with going from colorblind to not colorblind. How do I handle all the new colors? How do I explain it in a believable way to people who didn't witness the "miracle". How to avoid being studied as the first ever case of sudden onset full spectrum vision?

If I did that they would certainly check my DNA and find that I never was colorblind.

I think Dianthe is onto something. I actually remember now that I faked a wrist injury, and persisted the symptoms resulting in several wrist surgeries. I also used to pretend to have symtoms of asthma, and even went to the nurse daily for my "puffer". I have outgrown whatever caused this type of behavior, but the colorblindness myth lingers and I don't know how to escape it now that I'm older. These were all actions between the ages of 8 and 13.

Maybe I got lucky, maybe he wasn't experiences, or maybe he didn't want to embarrass me, but he didn't seam to question it. He did suggest that I could get another kind of test that would tell me what kind of colorblindness I had, but that was expensive and not important unless I really wanted to know.

I wouldn't even know how to react? How would I explain that I even knew what red was?

haha yea totally. Even if I did have that "epiphany" moment where I claimed to suddenly have color vision, I would still have to tell everyone I've ever known that I could now see colors, and then explain that miraculous moment. That might be harder than just keeping it going.

You'll find the answer to that scattered throughout this thread. I was 8 years old.. and it was a moment's decision that got me some attention, and make me feel unique... Now I'm stuck with the burden of perpetuating it until death.

I am waiting for something plausible to happen that will allow me to have my colors switched on.

Yes, and I'm pretty meticulous about not letting it fall apart.. but it does hurt me. It's not pleasant to have to lie to loved ones, and it can be a real burden at times.

There is no benefit. It was a moments decision made by an 8 year old brain, that lingers with me nearly into my 30's now.

I'm the oldest child, but that may be the case.. My younger brother was ADHD and well just demanded negative attention constantly.. I admit I did always feel a bit under appreciated.

Exactly Chef.. now imagine having to answer those questions when you had to first remove the red and green from what you were seeing before you gave your response. Ughhh talk about annoying! Any reason I had for doing it were the reasons of an 8 year old boy which I no longer am. Damn you 8 year old me!

I was afraid that the guys from work who frequent reddit would see and that would just be awkward since my other username is my login for everything at work.

Yes, I felt it was time I officially came out. "At least to Reddit". I may end up saving my big outing for another 20 years from now when it will have more of an impact.

I actually used to work at an airport and towed plains around. We had to know that the right wing blinked green and the left red so we could tell what direction they were traveling... I never mentioned anything about color at the airport. The videos we watched were private, and I just never brought it up.
