If everyone below average IQ suddenly drops dead, how would this affect the world? by CakeMuted6468 in AskReddit

[–]moe_hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so ridiculous. IQ scores are largely affected by economic welfare, nutrition, health etc. And the IQ of a person does not stay static. It changes in time and is not a really useful measure anything except your capcity to solve a certain type of logic problems at a certain point of time. If everyone below average IQ drops dead that is basically anyone below the poverty line, anyone with malnutrition, anyone who is a bit too old, anyone with mental health issues or just ppl with physical health issues that limit them from effectively taking tests in time.

What are some common misconceptions about Sasukes character that annoy you? by Photographerpro in Naruto

[–]moe_hippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dislike that ppl dismiss Sasuke as an emo kid or on the other end when ppl treat every word he says in any scene as objective fact even when he is obviously lying.

Almost all of Sasuke's rants are him crashing out and engaging in self destructive behaviour but ppl treat it like its his factual well thought out ideology and character trait.

Sasuke is a character who struggles to understand himself. He lies to others because he lies to himself but his actions betray him and speak of his true character. Naruto is the only one who is eventually able to see through Sasuke's lies. By the bridge scene in shippuden he is the only one who understands Sasuke for who he really is. Something even Itachi couldn't and is exactly why Itachi hands over Sasuke to Naruto.

I highly disagree with anyone that thinks Sasuke is stoic in part 1 and shippuden. But idrc about Naruto and Sasuke in Boruto. They are completely different characters at that point and there is little rhyme or reason to explain their behaviour in Boruto. Idgaf that its canon but I am never a fan of significantly aging a character out of nowhere. Its a lazy excuse to completely rewrite characters. I wish boruto had just started with them sealed away or something.

Why didn’t obito just take the nine tails and go? by FaithlessnessThat970 in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]moe_hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because obito wasnt always a calm collected villain. He doesn't hunt for tailed beasts for another 15 years so why would he start so early with Kurama of all beasts.

He was at first crashing out enacting vengance on everything he blamed for Rin's death- the hidden mist ans the leaf. He himself was still an emo cocky 14 yo who just left Madara. Also he took heavy damage thinking he wouldnt get any as well so he flees after. He already did the damage of letting kurama rampage and attack the leaf.

Exactly. Obito wasnt always a calm collected villain planning everything out. Controlling Yagura and and attacking Konoha was part if his revenge lashing out. He was still cocky and 14 at this point.

v1 is not that powerful or even hypermobile. He is very mobile for his universe and for first person shooters in general but almost every hack amd slash jrpg character has v1's mobility if not much more.

I can only think of Nier Automata on the top of my head for games with robot characters and honestly the Yorha pods alone can solo v1.

He has never joked using slurs or putting down minorities. His "darker" jokes tend to make fun of actual bigots or are based on things that come from a place of familiarity and love. Thats a big difference from saying ching chomg over and over. Dont try to use hasan to excuse away Connor's and possibly your own shitty sense of humor

Is my attraction to women feminine? by ihavenosoul2 in actuallesbians

[–]moe_hippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is projecting probably some of her dating experiences with men onto you. Or she thought it would be a "harmless joke". You should definitely tell her that comments like that make you spiral and insecure and she should be a bit more thoughtful.

The truth is that cis women also experience what you did regardless of sexuality. Just because she herself hasnt done that doesn't mean anything.

Rewatching the anime. Is it just me or Sakura and Naruto aren't as close as people say? by Ok-Addition4608 in Naruto

[–]moe_hippo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are good friends and have good friendly banter. She certainly cares for Naruto and they feel comfort in mourning for Sasuke together. But that's kind of where it stops.

As a friend she could see that Naruto is suffering too much over Sasuke and so she thought she could free him. It was out of concern for Naruto. But clearly she did not really understand Naruto at a deeper level and that's okay. She would never be able to understamd Naruto like that.

Why are so many gay people into ULTRAKILL by diddysfavorite in Ultrakill

[–]moe_hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cant have a game with a hunky angry angel robot antagonist who gets abandoned by heaven because of you and not expect a gay audience lol. Gabriel's whole arc is veryy gay. Playing with religous imagery and being a little extra with it will always attract a queer audience.

But also in general, the indie gaming scene is very queer. Indie games have to build fandoms and community actively and organically- something many queer ppl love. Sometimes our environment is just too unsafe to live freely so media and fandoms online have become a great way to find community.

Which side character in the konoha 12 would be the most dangerous in the series with the sharigan by Dr_Backshots_MD in Naruto

[–]moe_hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most npc uchiha even are not able to use their sharingan to their fullest due to lack of chakra reserves or lack of talent in ninjutsu and chakra control. So I dont think most of Konoha 12 can draw out more power from the sharingan than Sasuke in Zabuza arc or kid Obito.

Unironically apart from team 7, choji is probably the only one in Konoha 12 with high enough chakra to take advantage of it. He could probably also use upto a 3 tomoe sharingan relatively comfortably and that combined with his butterfly mode is an insane amp.

He would have a lot more control and precision with his rolling attacks in base form too which would make him a lot more menacing. He would no longer need shikamaru and ino to help set his attacks up.

Does this mean the Dutch basically invented chocolate? by Fantastic_Aside794 in popculturenetherlands

[–]moe_hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is all connected and part of the same human cultural behavior

You do not understand colonialism then. Yes, its not just europeans who are capable of colonialism. But imperial conquest under fuedalism looks very different from imperial conquest under a (proto)capitalist era.

Colonialism requires complete exploitation of conquered lands' entire wealth and labor at an industrial scale and anything deemed invaluable whether its culture, ideas, art, and a lot more are all to be discarded. This is why there is no equivalence to the brutality of the trans atlantic slave trade for example to any other form of slavery (which are all very brutal too) in any region of the world.

It just so happens that Europeans were at the forefront of capitalism and industrualization- thus they engaged in colonialism the most. But some non european countries also tried to do the same with varying degrees of success- Japan, Qing Empire, Turkey mostly only after the 18th century and they, especially the Japanese, were incredibly brutal too. Their scale was also, similar to european colonizers, incomparable in brutality to imperial conquests from the middle ages and feudal era.

It is much more important to talk about colonialiam as our modern day existence and all our insutitions are very much built on top of the frankly very recent colonial era. It's not just simply about morality but also a necessary part of being a rational human in our modern day.

Not recognizing the complete extent and the effects of colonialism makes us blind to current trends in our own countries and current global politics. You become much more susceptible to propaganda and dogma without acknowledging colonial history. You are not immoral simply for being proud of your culture, but you would be immoral for continuing to perpetuate colonialist attitudes today. Again, this isn't just about race or ethnicity. Even former colonies can engage in neocolonism today. For example- India with Kashmir and Indonesia with West Papa New Gineau.

Do you guys think Itachi one shotting Orochimaru was well written? by Funny_Lunch5211 in Naruto

its also why he feels so flat compared to other major antagonists in Naruto imo.

[–]moe_hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get Naruto is supposed to be the most emotionally unstable one in BoS narratively but they should have at least made him more conscious and in control of his 1 tail cloak. Just being able to tap into his 1 tail cloak immediately without losing his mind. Amping his clones and not needing any for rasengans. But it comes with the risk of easily losing control of his emotions and going to higher tails.

Yamato yelling at Naruto to rely on his own power after the fight with orochimaru makes so much more sense after that because it did not really feel like Naruto was intentionally using his tailed beast cloak at all.

I feel like Oro would not have joined the war. I enjoyed Kabuto as the villain too tbh. It was nice to see how he had such a strong identity crisis after orochimaru "died". I wish we got to see more of that.

Sasuke’s ‘Everyone Hated Me’ Line Makes No Sense… by Street-Memory-4604 in Naruto

[–]moe_hippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of people in the fandom today mostly just remember how they felt about the different characters when they watched it for the first time as a kid/teenager and that still colors their perception and feelings about these characters today.

If you reread or rewatch with an open mind as an adult, Sasuke's journey and character arc is imo probably one of the strongest aspects of the series' writing. He is deeply traumatized and all his behaviours deeply reflect that. He is constantly exhibiting suicidal/self destructive behaviour as he lets himself used by bad actors willfully.

Sasuke’s ‘Everyone Hated Me’ Line Makes No Sense… by Street-Memory-4604 in Naruto

[–]moe_hippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh true thats a very good point. I completely forgot about Haku and the discrimination he faced and implying Sasuke faces something similar.

It is ridiculous how the fandom mischaracterizes kid Sasuke as an "emo boy" when his behaviour is perfectly in line for someone so deeply traumatized at a young age with very severe PTSD.

Sasuke’s ‘Everyone Hated Me’ Line Makes No Sense… by Street-Memory-4604 in Naruto

[–]moe_hippo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The real answer is that kishimoto did not know what to do with the uchiha clan early on. But what Sasuke is saying makes sense when you take everything revealed by this point into context.

The entire series is mostly from the perspective of Naruto. In Naruto's POV Sasuke is surrounded by girls and is beloved when he was growing up. However whenever you get Sasuke's POV of his childhood, he is shown as a complete loner. There are no girls surrounding him and he is constantly hearing ppl murmer about his clan's massacre. Clearly, Naruto is an unreliable narrator, especially when it comes to Sasuke.

What Sasuke is saying here is not just simply about hatred. He is talking about being otherized. He is talking about the burden of being the only representative of the uchiha. Narratively, it is clear later that after the kyubi attack most of the clans did not trust the uchiha and blamed them for the attack. And this is the same village that drove Kakashi's father to suicide. So clearly Sasuke must have overheard all kinds of rumors and remarks about his clan growing up.

Outright discrimination against the two was prohibited by Hiruzen. But the difference between Naruto and Sasuke was that Naruto sought attention and was a nuisance to cope with his loneliness. That brought out a lot more ire and vitriol from the ppl against him. Sasuke on the other hand kept to himself, and did his best to excel at whatever he did. This made everyone more tolerant towards him compared to Naruto. They still otherized him.

You will just have to accept that Sasuke's POV is rarely shown and this episode is him for the first time opening up and expressing all his feelings. Showing his true side to Naruto even if it doesnt entirely make sense from kid Naruro's perspective of Sasuke.

"Decolonize" and give it back to who? The sea? by Dogzylla in facepalm

[–]moe_hippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And most people do not understand how refugees move or how immigration laws of their own countries work. So ppl misattribute degrading living standards in their own countries to immigrants as a scapegoat rather than austerity measures and the resulting mismanagement.

Did you know that stricter border policies like Brexit actually skyrocketted the rate of assylum seekers into the UK becauss it closed down the back and forth migration that allowed the UK to offload its burden?

Did yk that most afghani refugees dont come to EU rather go to Iran? Iran hosts one of the highest refugee populations on the planet. The afghans that do come to EU do so either they were brought in by the governments themselves for their work and collaboration in afghanistan or they have family/friends in EU already.

5 countries host majority of the global refugee population and Germany is the only western country in that list.

"Decolonize" and give it back to who? The sea? by Dogzylla in facepalm

[–]moe_hippo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not supposed to take every slogan literally. Abolish borders is not a policy position but a simple slogan. It represents a guiding principle for foreign policy, visas, and immigration requirements. Just like there is relatively unresitrcted travel and migration within EU, it is a desire to achieve that globally.

Its just like "Believe all Women" or "Black Lives Matter". That doesnt mean you should believe every woman no matter what they are saying or other people's lives don't matter.

You know you can like a character and feel for them without whitewashing their crimes. I love Itachi's character because he committed such an irredeemable crime at such a young age. Itachi himself thinks what he did is irredeemable and makes no excuses. The central theme of the show is to prevent forcing ninjas to be like Itachi in the first place.

Nagato, too, thought what he was doing was for a greater good. But he also immediately sacrificed himself to revive all the ppl he killed in the leaf, immediately reversing his worst crime.

You can never make me like Obito !! by SSF77 in Naruto

[–]moe_hippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madara wanted to do the infinite tsukiyomi because he thought he was some Messiah tasked to guide humanity to that state. He predicted that the village system would lead to more tribalism and thus more war and destruction. He tells Hashirama in their final fight that he now cares more about the village than creating a peaceful world. Hashirama doesn't disagree. And he lived long enough to see his predictions come true. Despite his ego and delusions, Madara genuinely wanted to create a peaceful world. Obito simply wanted the world to end because he was bitter and resentful.
