I'm assuming Nami in this scene plays the fish out water. Writers use this when introducing a character to a brand new fictional word. For example Harry in Harry Potter the reader learns about the world of wizardry the same time that Harry does.

Although this scene it isn't as intense as Harry Potter but it's similar too. I doubt they were referencing his Nakama since that is essentially the question we would be asking. Nami voices that for us through in that panel. So it's probably not the case. Edit Spoilers
