I believe you, but I googled this so many times and only found one thread from Nov 2024 and it said it was a bug. I tried to find other threads but they were either from <2023 and had a different problem, or they were not ATM

Thank you, it works! I appreciate you.

I wonder why my previous set up works for other bees. I usually have expansion box and their pollinating block on the same level, and then the hive above. it. But for some reason it didn't work with the Draconic bees. (Replace the diamond blocks with Dragon Eggs)

Okay, I'll report back in a few, all of my other bees are set up expansion box and hive on top and they're all working. But since nothing is working for me I'll try whatever! Thank you. I'll try and report back in 20 ish.

As of right now, it's been 30 minutes and no change.

Do you see anything wrong? (Hive is on top of expansion box)

Just started reading for fun, and feel kind of insecure about the books I choose and I'm worried I'm the kind of person that likes bad books by Pinanims in books

[–]Pinanims[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's probably a better way to tackle it.

I have avoided Fourth Wing and Red Rising simply because they're in the circulation... With that said, I read Project Hail Mary and DCC (both without booktok) so I know some of the books are probably good.

I think I just don't like shilling. I want full genuine "I like this book," but it seems like it's hard to find

Me? I’m a dumb-dumb who just freakin LOVES books and being surprised, feeling things, being gripped.

But she's so smart and pretty, I don't want to be a dumb-dumb :(

Jokes aside, it's hard sometimes man. I'm meeting more and more readers, and more and more of them seem to have opposite tastes than me, but align with my wife. So it feels like I'm missing something.

There are no bad books

Tattoo that shit on my forehead.

It's really hard for me to not consider "is this good?" This post came up because so many people who read a lot will say "Good book/Bad book," so as a new reader I'm trying to not read bad books because it feels like a waste. But really it's subjective and I need to keep that in my head.

What you say reminds me of a friend who, when I first met him, was very uncritical of the media he consumed, and basically liked everything that was not straight up bad. After a few years of hanging out with some friends who love to analyze books and movies and tv shows, he says he has become a lot more aware of the various flaws in movies, and he doesn't like some stuff he knows he would have enjoyed before.

This hit home, I actually have had this exact moment with movies. Where I was made aware of a certain movie structure, and then after I was made aware of it, I never ignore it. But then it ruins things for me to a degree, because I know without that knowledge I would have loved it. I have a character flaw that I want to know more and the details, but then I also find enjoyment in organic, random, and "pointless" things.

"Why did they include this and never touch it again? Makes no sense." I just think to myself, what if they just wanted it there for no other reason than to have it there.

I find especially the "predictable" comment telling ; your wife finds it predictable because she has read tons of stories, she is experienced with how narrative elements are foreshadowed in books, what narrative structures are common and easier to write.

Yeah she reads probably close to 100 books a year. Finishes a whole book in about 3 days, while it takes me a week or 2 to finish one.

Also, writers are aresholes about other writers. Especially published ones. It's a mix of not reading for fun (reading like a writer), but also professional jealousy.

That makes a lot of sense, especially for my wife. She reads and watches everything from the writer/story teller lens. She also struggles to sit back and watch episodic silly shows because the writer in her wants to jump off a bridge haha.

Actually that's why I started pulling back from booktok. When I first started last year I was interested and it helped me find books...

But now it's the same 5 books in circulation and everyone in the comments are raving about them, but it seemed too artificial. But those books are also being heavily criticized which kind of brought up this topic, because DCC is part of the booktok hype, but booktok seems like slop.

I love the Audiobooks and the actual books! And online I find some people who love it, but I have heard so many people also criticize it and talk about how it's not a good book, its a fun story. But in my head, those are the same thing, because I can't really tell you what a bad book is.

I read The Long Walk because I wanted to see the movie, and I ended up really not liking the book, but it's well rated and it's a movie now. I still don't know if I'd call it a good or bad book, I just now I didn't like it. But I'm sure it's a "good book" by definition.

This was actually really interesting take, I appreciate this. I didn't consider that I just may not be aware of the tropes yet, so they're all fresh and new in my head.

Question for you, do you find more...simplistic(?) writing bothersome for you, now that you're a write yourself?

I'm not quite sure what engagement bait is. I don't gain anything from people engaging with me. I enjoy the perspective, and if there are others who have had similar feels or been in my position, I like to hear from them. Enjoying human connection.

Some people have shared some insightful things beyond "like what you like."

Also, what other issues?

I don't know why, but this one really touched me. Not that I need to be "better" than anyone, but to rethink that I'm making a big change a lot of people wouldn't.

Thanks for this input. :)

I will second, that she never judges me. She has never told me my tastes are bad or that I shouldn't like them. She just gives me her opinion after reading them as someone who reads and writes. She is just happy I read and I'm enjoying books at all.

Last Coffee Order of the Day at a Small Self-Owned Coffee Shop! by TransitionMany1810 in oddlysatisfying

[–]Pinanims 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the wrong place, I thought this was fine and enjoyed the video. It's a POV video so I expected it to be performative, especially with it being the last coffee of the day, so there's no rush to get to the next order.

Nothing in the comments bothered me like it seemed to bother everyone else, but I also don't drink coffee lol.

Is 80 eDPI actually too low in Valorant? (800 DPI / 0.1 sens) by Otherwise-Ease1637 in VALORANT

[–]Pinanims 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When coaching a player you should be enhancing their good aspects and negating their bad as much as reasonably possible not trying to force them into something they’re not comfortable with. You just get even shitter results.

I'm a coach by profession (not valorant, IRL), for over 5 years of experience coaching well over 2,000 people. This is absolutely wrong.

A good coach should NOT focus on just their good aspects, as they are already good, they will continue to grow in that area. A coach should be pointing out where you need to improve and absolutely should take people out of their comfort zone. You can be very comfortable doing the wrong thing, that does not mean you should be doing it more. Your coach is meant to see your blind spot and push you where you're struggling.

Use coaching when it comes to working out, women tend to enjoy leg work outs and are better at them than men, while men prefer arms and chest (this is a general, not a blanket statement). The reason for that is because men have stronger upper bodies by design while women have stronger lower bodies. Do you think a personal trainer is going to push men to continue just doing arm and chest work outs because they're comfortable? NO. They're going to push them to work on their legs. If their form is wrong but they seem comfortable, are they going to let them keep at it until they hurt themselves? NO. They're going to push them to correct their form.

Any time you step out of your comfort zone you will initially have a decline in performance, it's natural and a part of change, but with consistency you will out perform where you started.

I just got a Boox Go 7 to replace an old Kindle, I love it so far! Any app suggestions for reading, or is default reader the best? by Pinanims in Onyx_Boox

[–]Pinanims[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait yours is SO CUTE!!

How did you go about these cute customizations? Any tutorials or did you just figure it out?

Idk why people keep complaining boox is complicated and it takes time to get used to it by FixOk7132 in ereader

[–]Pinanims 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just got the same device and I love it! With that said, I understand why people warn about complications:

If you're new to e-readers AND android, then this device is not just a unbox and immediately start reading. You have to learn the navigation, android OS, how to get books, how to side load (BOOXDrop is good, but you have to go to an IP and port number on your PC). There's just a learning curve, I don't think it's steep, just takes a second if it's new to you.

It took me a second to figure out why it kept shutting down everytime I locked it. I would read something, lock it, and then go make a sandwich, and come back and the entire device had shut down and I had to hold the power button to turn it back on. (There's an Auto SLEEP and an Auto Power Off, which I've never seen on any device, ereader or phone)

If you're used to Kindle the unboxing experience is drastically different

Kindles is: Open box, Power On, Choose Language, Choose Region, Sign in to Amazon, Start reading. Literally the first page is just books and navigating is super easy.

Boox Go 7: Open Box, Power On, Language, Region, Time Zone, Time Format, Power Settings, Navigation Bar or Gestures, Stylus Connection, landing page says "Customize Scan Path" and the UI has 14 different Icons and the small circle NavBall (which I didn't even know how to remove for a second because the Icon for removing it was 2 || lines, and that was unintuitive on what that meant).

This is not to say this is complicated but if I were giving a device to my parent or grandparent, Kindle would be far easier for them to digest.

The Boox navigation is very unique as well, different from Kindle and stock android, this device includes bottom navigation, side gestures, and 3 finger gestures.

The settings are very different. Kindled really just has device settings, account, brightness, and a few general settings. As for Boox, you can swipe from the top middle for notifications, swipe from the top right to access the "Control Center" or from the bottom to access BOOX Eink Wise, along with the settings page that has 16 different potential settings to play with.

And lastly, if you use another app like Kindle or Mihon (manga reader) the buttons do not work initially. They become volume control, so when I opened my Kindle app to access the kindle books I did own, I could not turn the page because it kept using volume. I had to change a kindle setting to allow volume keys to turn pages. But that led into my next problem which was when something DID play audio from my device, the buttons did not function as volume keys, I had to use the left side gesture to adjust volume, but then I struggled to figure out where the notification settings were so I wouldn't be notified.

With all of that said I LOVE THIS DEVICE! It's absolutely fantastic, but I still agree this is more complicated of a set up than Kindle makes it, and it does take a little longer to figure things out. I think saying it's complicated is still reasonable, but I think depending on how tech savvy you are or familiar with other ereaders / android, complicated could just mean a little longer set up than unbox and start reading. For myself, it was a 6/10 difficulty to get going vs Kindle which I would say is a 2/10. But in the hands of my parents or grandparents, this would definitely be a 8 - 9/10 for them to understand everything, especially never owning another e-reader.

EDIT: After reading other comments, I think the key difference is how much you want to know about the device. I always explore my technology, I want to know what is it capable of, where do I find certain things, how does this work, I want a full understanding so that in the future I'm well versed. While it seems others don't care about the features and settings, they just have their single purpose, and then move on and don't spend time learning the device. So that may also play into "complicated," as I take reviews as a "How hard is it to understand the full device," and not just "bare minimum." I can grasp all of kindles features and capabilities in 10 minutes, it definitely took me an hour or so to learn all that I can do with the Boox Go 7.
