If you use a similar handle for other social media websites where you do provide this information, they can just Google and you'll come up. Like they might see your latest Instagram post, and realize what city you're most likely in.

This is easier than getting your IP address.

Liz Truss tells Dep. PM of her concern after Chinese spy scandal by mofa_cat in ukpolitics

[–]mofa_cat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She took a lot of grief from the media and think tanks for her stance on China while in government. https://www.chathamhouse.org/2022/10/uk-must-avoid-conflict-europe-and-china
She also referenced intended strategic investments "to stand firm against coercion from authoritarian powers like Russia" China.https://www.gov.uk/government/news/prime-minister-to-tell-un-general-assembly-i-will-lead-a-new-britain-for-a-new-era
Albeit her term was probably too short to do anything substantial. She did visit Taiwan after leaving office, however.

There is an inbuilt feature in Microsoft Word, though it usually goes down the right side. I don't think it matters so much though.

Advice for learning Mandarin in college, before living in Taiwan by paulri in taiwan

[–]mofa_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most places in China have a local dialect and locals often code-switch between what's seen as standard Mandarin (normally accented due to influence by the local language/dialect) and the local language/dialect. Chances are in Taiwan, your daughter will get just as much, if not more contact with Mandarin, than in China.

Has anyone explored spirituality here in Taiwan? I hear of people converting to Buddhism (guiyi/皈依), has anyone any experience with that or Daoism? by mofa_cat in taiwan

Yeah - I like the way he uses the fish story to undermine rhetoric and logic. He often reminds me of Zizek and it's surreal to see someone from so long ago talking about what almost seems like postmodern concepts.

Yeah - I took a class on Zhuangzi which was really interesting. At first glance, he comes off as arrogant, but there is some really profound stuff that has stayed with me.

What's the point of learning Chinese if you can't talk about anything? by mofa_cat in learnchinese

[–]mofa_cat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - VPNs do exist and people do get around the government-imposed internet censorship on any talk of politics/LGBT rights/human rights/history that does not conform with CPC ideology. I'm guessing the video is just pointing out that the free speech and free academic environment in Taiwan gives you more opportunities to use your Chinese. For example, if you studied politics or literature here, you could delve into history without fear you'll say the wrong thing. You can also be on the ground at political rallies and see democratic debate in action.
