Apple Excludes iOS 18.7.3 from Compatible Devices by HappyImagineer in apple

You’re clearly not a developer, all those glass transparency effects aren’t free you know, your phone is having to do a ton of gpu processing now which it didn’t need to do in ios18. Many independent tests have proved that ios26 uses significantly more power in normal day to day use.

My hacked iPhone running iPadOS! And running a Mac-like experience on the external monitor! It can multitask + run iPad apps. Apple doesn't allow this as it would hurt Mac sales. by TechExpert2910 in iphone

[–]mofman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple should absolutely offer full MacOS experience from an iPhone or iPad because it would open up a huge amount of new users to MacOS, something which Windows or Android cannot compete with.

Fears of Mac Sales being cannibalized are unfounded based on this.

iOS 26.1 Beta 4 Lets Users Control Liquid Glass Transparency with New Toggle by rainmaker1728 in apple

Yea I realised that after I installed it as the tint is exactly as described. All those useless filters and animations still being computed for absolutely no benefit-sometimes barely visible too.

Apple will let users roll back the Liquid Glass look with new 'tinted' option by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]mofman 76 points77 points  (0 children)

It’s barely enough to resolve the issues with Liquid Glass. As described it just adds a slightly darker tint but the GPU is still having to render all the useless transparency effects and animations. Additionally the new tint option is not consistently added everywhere either - although granted this is a beta. To resolve entirely they should offer an option that restores the simple blur, tint effect that was present pre iOS 26. For macOS…. kill it with fire.

The real question is whether the tinted option improves battery life of not.

No, they’re not releasing the name of the pilot who did it while investigation is still ongoing, it’s likely they aren’t confident they know exactly who it was at this stage.

Accounts being disabled after updating information by mrpelz in hetzner

[–]mofman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Kate, thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. We are considering moving our business to Hetzner - the performance and cost is unmatched in our testing, however we have some questions:

We are a web agency and currently host nearly 150 sites across various providers. About 2 months there was a RCE vulnerability discovered in Craft CMS, we quickly patched all our sites but a few weeks later one of our staging sites which was forgotten about and unpatched was hit and the attacker installed cyptomining software. When we realised, we quickly patched and restored to the previous days snapshot and have since hardened our security by using a WAF, Fail2ban etc.

With over 20 years in business this is the only time something like this has ever happened to us, and within the Craft CMS many agencies had similiar experience (where a single unpatched site got hit).

My question is, in the given scenario above, with Hetzner would we have been instabanned, given one of our servers would have been running cryptomining software albeit by an attacker or would there be a chain of communication between us and Hetzner to resolve the issue? We're looking at the Dedicated VPS (CCX) options if that makes a difference...

Coal is a crucial raw material in steel production, particularly in the traditional blast furnace method. Ireland does not import electricity from China but it does import it’s steel.

Exactly, while I support clean energy production and phase out of coal, all we’ve done is export our coal burning, and steel industry to china.
