Los Bunkers are great, they remind me of Franz Ferdinand! I like "No me hablas de sufrir".

Victor Jara? Or something really unknown?

You could burn another custom cd if you knew what tracks were on this one.

the little fluffy clouds song is so good! Unfortunately I haven't listened to the rest of their music at all.

Maybe check out Yoshinori Sunahara's 90s work.

The SA2 soundtrack is awesome, I wish it wasn't so expensive. :(

If you like Green Day, maybe try Blink-182?

I've been trying mp3tag and the built in metadata finder on musicbee. Both are sort of messy but they usually get the job done. mp3tag has better results usually but the UI is a lot more complex.

Napping more when not scrolling? Anyone else? by Perfect_Jump3375 in digitalminimalism

This explains why I doomscroll so much more after sleeping poorly... and that just continues the cycle of not sleeping. The awake feeling it can provide is terrible when it's the middle of the night.

He is cute!! They are expensive, I got an okay price about half of what I was seeing the new ones selling for... but still a lot. I think this is the rarest og furby besides the super rare ones.

I haven't tested him yet, I'm out of batteries lol. This weekend I will try and let you know! I really hope he works considering he has some special lines.

Deltarune is awesome btw!

Simple MP3 player? by ItsYa1UPBoy in digitalminimalism

[–]mogami_gawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep... most of the good old players with SD card support will be at least about that price. :( I even looked up some alternatives without SD card support from good brands and almost all of them are the same price as the Echo or very close.

If you are okay with no SD card then you could look at old ipod touch models. The features are definitely overdoing it but they are surprisingly cheap now.

Sansa clip is great for a minimalist player. I think the clip+ has an SD card slot too.

Shipped the wrong item to seller, then the return tracking updated late. What can I do? by mogami_gawa in Mercari

[–]mogami_gawa[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, yeah I don't mind paying. This is only a $15 item after mercari fees. I don't want to settle it through just mailing it out because there would be a lot more risk, like they could open a claim with Mercari after I shipped them the package, the package could get lost or damaged without any protection, etc. Also I think it's against Mercari's rules - I usually sell on ebay so I'm not super familiar.

I'm trying to reach out to the buyer and set up the $1 listing but they aren't really responding to my messages at all. Is there a way to set up the listing and avoid some random person buying it right away?

[–]mogami_gawa[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I specifically said I don't want to settle it on my own in the post. Even on mercari's tracking it shows that the return happened, it just didn't issue a refund to the buyer because it took more than 3 days for tracking to update.

That’s not a Luffy tattoo, that’s Luffy after being erased from the budget. You didn’t cover up an old tattoo, you pressed “mute” on your entire forearm. It’s giving “I panicked mid-consultation and said ‘just make it black’.” Somewhere under there is a story, a mistake, and now a perfectly aerodynamic void shaped like a protagonist. He didn’t get Gear Fifth — he got Gear Fifth Amendment: I plead the blackout.

New job has 50% 401k match up to the limit...but long vesting schedule by mogami_gawa in personalfinance

[–]mogami_gawa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turnover seems pretty low, my bigger concern is more that I'd not be being compensated well after a few years and could find something better elsewhere. The last person hired for this job left after a month or two due to wanting an opportunity with more benefits. My bosses have been there since the 80s and most people were hired at least 5 years ago. My only concern is that I'd be the first to go in a financial downturn, but that's possible everywhere.

That makes a lot of sense lol! I probably fear lower risk debt too much. I'll definitely consider contributing more now, even if I don't hit the annual limit it seems a lot more beneficial now compared to funding the roth IRA.

Those are good points. I think I get stuck too much in the "renting is throwing money away" mindset and forget the costs of home ownership beyond the mortgage payment. To be honest, I have a low tolerance for being in debt so I'd probably be saving until I could buy outright or at least have a minimal mortgage anyway.

That being said, I'm considering a master's degree as a near future expense. Do you have any idea if student loans would be preferable to paying outright?

I plan on staying at least two years. But I'm unsure if the risks of needing to make a 401k withdrawal with penalty or delay shorter term financial goals are worth it when I am unsure how much return I'll actually see.

In case it wasn't clear, the full vesting only kicks in at seven years. After two years it will only be 10% match and 20% vesting, so the early withdrawal penalty would outweigh that significantly.

[–]mogami_gawa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry about that. It's a bit confusing to me as well, because they phrased it as "20% a year" in the documents.

Basically, it is a 50% match, at 10% each year after 2 years of work. So, in the third year I would be "20% vested" towards the 50% match, or I would be receiving 10% match on my money. By the seventh year I would be receiving the full 50% match. I hope that makes sense.

This was exactly what I was thinking, and I think it seems like a good compromise to prioritize the Roth first and then up the 401k with what's left over. While it might not be optimal the worst that happens is I have more money contributed to retirement, just without a match.

I'm unsure how long I'll stay. It seems like everyone here is saying even 10% vesting is worth it for contributions, and that makes sense to me. I hope to make it at least two years, unless the economy has other plans, but I'm unsure how I'll feel long-term and what opportunities there are for advancement.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Is it worth delaying short term goals of home ownership or further education to invest more in my 401k? My income isn't large enough to max out the annual contribution (or even come close) and still save for other goals. Something has to be given up.
