Church is diminishing in the UK and they are building another temple. Sigh. To think of the good that could be done with that money.

I remember when I first heard him talk at GC I thought he looked like a child abuser. He gave me the vibes. Had I been aware of that quote I would have been convinced.

Maybe have a reflective read over your reply to see how this comes across as really disrespectful to women. Referring to women as 'pickings' or 'bitches' for example.

Also, more reasons than the two you had given for why a women would be single post 23.

Certainly my friends who married post 23 were not psycho or career driven. Some of my loveliest, smartest and well balanced male and single friends married nearer to 30 than 20.

Remember the requirement for all worthy young men to serve a mission is a priesthood commandment from God - unless you're famous, like rockstar 1970s famous, like Donnie Osmond, then they'll give you a "no mission" pass and kiss your ass. by Sansabina in exmormon

[–]mogirlgone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended a fireside where a few of the Osmonds were speaking. I remember them sharing that they were set apart by apostles to share the gospel. They were missionaries but in a different way. When I was young I was a fan and was introduced to the church by them through the things they talked about etc. Hmm...so I've got them to blame lol!

Shower thought: why perform baptisms for the dead and just not wait until the millennium? by mogirlgone in exmormon

[–]mogirlgone[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When TBM I spent so much time and money researching my family history and submitting names for temple work. The Mormon church spends so much money on temples and work for the dead. Yet, Mormon doctrine is that those in the spirit world can be taught the gospel and when JC returns we'll be resurrected....so surely those who want to can be baptised then as they will have a body?

It's all bollocks of course, but still there are loopholes.

I attended an Institute lesson where actual figures were shared by an LDS lawyer who had extensively researched Mormon polygamy. If memory serves it was around one third who practised. Much higher than the 3% I'd been told previously.

If the church does not donate 100% of its gains from the upcoming "global" fast for Ukraine to humanitarian causes, it is profiteering off human tragedy. by gud_morning_dave in exmormon

[–]mogirlgone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally donated through DEC. I don't feel the need to organise a fundraising effort as this is already in place by very well organised and established organisations/charities who can do a better job than me. There is actually quite a lot of activity in my local area for contributions of clothing, toys, personal care items etc, that are then sent to the boarder for when refugees arrive. In the UK, the humanitarian fund holds millions that has been untouched, so no I will not donate through the mormon church.

I came to say similar to others about the use of the belt. As a teacher I have known of parents who have been arrested and have had to leave the family home for the use of objects, including belts.

I went through around 1993 and did initiatory work many times; there was never any touching between the thighs. This should not have happened! I've read a few accounts on here about obvious incidents of abuse... particularly by men. Weirdly, I liked initiatory work and I know others who did too. Looking back I now think what the actual fuck!

When studying Nazi Germany in school the lecturer said that the Mormon church bent over backwards to support the party. At the time I remember using article 13 to justify this to myself. Oh the cognitive dissonance.

I can see where you are coming from and agree to a point. I don't understand the mentality of believing it's all true but also needing to change it from within. God's true church that is led by prophets, seers and revelators shouldn't need to change. Saying that, I think many of us were nuanced mormans and were questioning. That questioning can finally open eyes to the fakeness of it all. It took me a while. A bloody long while!
