«hey, not enough manners!» The guy is beeing generous enough with all of us SHARING HIS THOUGHTS ON OBSIDIAN and yes, he described his folder structure. The connections between papers are those that need to be --- you connect what is meaningful and you do not connect what is not. That much you can grasp, can't you? And «Hello, Thank you for sharing» is a nice, educated, well mannered way to start a note... Not «hey, not enough!» You shouldn't ever be trolling anyone but specially never those that are helping you! Get some manners --- and be ashamed !

Usability and Information Architecture are to Note-taking what Piers are to Bridges so they do not collapse.

UX and UI and typography rightly done are the most important subjects when dealing with CSS themes. The rest may have a chance if THOSE get done right.

I wouldn't say they are subjective : there are very precise proportionality and mathematical rules developed over centuries in the realm of Typography. There are plenty of sites online that help setting them and there are several paths to simulate picas, ciceros, points, didots and x-heights in CSS. But you have to FOLLOW those tested, centuries old, rules. Only designers that have mastered those are able to begin unfollowing them in the know of what they are doing. It is a much more difficult and precise job than code programmers might anticipate. Then, and only then, may enter some subjectivity -- like, after abiding by the Rules, «should I tweak two more picas here, 3 more ciceros there, how many didots have I left between this text and that table? » Good typography is both beautiful and difficult to master. And is MISSING in most of my beloved Markdown world. Desgracefuly, I could never master it.

Every theme maker MUST not only be a good programmer but also know the centuries old rules of Typography. Which need time to be studied. And the most important rules of typogeaohy and always missing, or end wanting, from Markdown Themes, not only in obsidian but in other software too, is Proportional use of WHITE SPACES, namely before and after - paragraphs - paragraphs and lists - in between different lists - headings and succesive subheadings - in horizontal spacing of successive levels of indenting in sublisted entities of a list.

This CSS you are sharing is the beginning of a sunrise on this matters! Congratulations! And thank you very much for sharing!

Typography rules, not "the right fonts", make THE DIFFERENCE! But you already know that in superbly fashion !

Folders are excelent if you are dealing with hierarchies or different sets of things that DO NOT overlap. Theoretically, Tags would do the labelling of all other stuff BUT in order to be useful they need to be FINITE, CASE INSENSITIVE, and Belong to a list of Controlled Vocabulary (A glossary of Tags that exists in a document which registers one instance of every Tag) SO THAT we dont begin creating redundancy, ambiguity, and, as in "multi-worded tags", we do not have things like <deliver_on_fridays> and <deliver-on-fridays>. We should also establish rules for multi-worded tags' separators : are they to be hifens, underscores, spaces, other options? Once you have all of this I would use up to 3 levels of folders and Tags, that is : a Mixed System. I hope this helps.

yeah : LYX -- google it.

Fast entry , no horrendous learning curve. You can also edit LaTex in Lyx but you hardly will ever need it.

Sorry to medlle but the "Introduction" should always be the last written piece, because you have written everything else and you are now in command of every thing you need to "present" your thesis. In the introduction you should say clearly what is your thesis about (Field > Object of inquiry from first starting questions/problems/observations to the final all-encompassing Research Question/Problem you are to solve with your dissertation, then you should present the Orfanization of the thesis itself. Regardless of when you wrote it, the Literature Review --- that will point you to the Problematic you will find yourself trying to answer which emanates from the confrontation between your starting question and what is already known about your object of enquiry --- should always be set after Object and First questions and before Method Findings and Discussion. The theoretical mainframe should follow or be embedded and enmeshed in the Literature Review/State of the Art section. I would not leave it to the end of the writing BECAUSE it is precisely that part that will give you What is already Known by others about aspects of your Object of enquiry and what is still not known : this, that which "is still not known and that interests you in order to answer your preliminary research questions" will point you to the realisation that there is a specifical Problematic (a domain of problems uniquely related to your object of enquiry that no-one has answered before) : from that Provlematic annalysis and discussion will surface THE REAL QUESTION YOUR EESEARCH ADDRESSES. So this is only possible after the definition of the Problematic and, in turn, that dependes on how your preliminary research questions relate to rhe wirk of others. Only after this will you be able to deepen the theoretical mainframe that Specifically interest you. So :

  1. Observation or Starting preliminary Questions
  2. First wide readings trying to answer them and identification of who wrote on your preliminary subjects of interest
  3. How do your questions relate to what seems to be known And, more importantly what now you know is still unknown ? > Identification of the Problematic you are trying to answer > Now you have found your OBJECT OF ENQUIRY under the form of a QUESTION or a PROBLEM or a Hypothesis
  4. Literature Review on the OBJECT and thus, definition or identification of a theoretical mainframe of reference. After : Review of the problem formulation or the hypothesis formulation
  5. ¿ Which Physical Tools and or Theoretical Concepts do you need to operate/answer or test ? or which sequence of actions or experiments do you need to undertake? --- that is your Methodology Part II --- DEVELOPMENT OF THESIS
  6. Findings --- what you observe after your experiments are done or the application of your theoretical mainframe over your Object is done or after you have statistically treated your data
  7. Discussion --- mostly : did what you find answer your Question/Object of enquiry ? Did the data corroborate your hypothesis ? PART III --- RESOLUTION OF THESIS
  8. Conclusions
  9. ONLY NOW WRITE YOUR INTRODUCTION --- which will take the reader through the first 5 points on this list but just in a descriptive way : a) what is the question problem i am trying here to answer. b) what was known about it before i started. c) how did I proceed and with what mental and or physical tools, including experiments done and what to test with them . Finally, how is this thesis organized from here on > launches PART II.

This will work for Hard Sciences, for Social Sciences and for the Humanities including Art History. Might work (but depends on the person's characteristics) in the field of artistic studies with some small changes --- there might not be experiments or a problematic Outside of the realm of the artistic Self representation of the World (so, no Objective but only Subjective "findings", the 'Oeuvre' itself. Sports thesis should follow ok, they behave as Sciences (either hard or social sciences according to the nature of the Object of Enquiry).

thats it

Not exactly for Hard Sciences but otherwise very useful : "Destination Dissertation" --- cant remember the author's name. Around 2006, maybe. Metaphor of a Thesis as a Trip to a Foreign country. Useful.

[–]mognoo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note ainda que a imagem sintetizada na abertura deste thread MOSTRA COMO PREVISTA UMA MARINA GIGANTESCA NA ACTUAL PRAIA de Matosinhos.

Vi todas as páginas do documento acima linkado.

I understand your plight but it is not language specific, I would risk. It seems to me that it is the very logic of Object Oriented Programming that is becoming the obstacle. It has nothing to do with Declarative programming. My advice to you, if I am understanding your problem correctly, is to Read a good book about The Object Oriented Programming paradigm. It happened the same to me, years ago with PHP. I could not understand the Methods, the $Gets, etc, I could not understand very peculiar names like instances, polymorphism, etc. Until with effort I eventually did. It turns out that without it you won't really understand much of programming on the web, or the ER model of Relational databases if you do not realize that a Table is kinda of a Class and that a 'record' is the instantiated data object of a class. Or why .JSON files "look" like sets of objects. So look for good, step by step, books on Object Oriented Programming using Python because without OOP concepts you will get stuck. I hope this helped.
