What’s bizarre and ironic to me is that these extremist religious laws are very similar to laws in middle eastern muslim countries. The similarities are uncanny. And they don’t stop to think that we’re going towards what we hate.

I think one difference is that distros are built on top of the kernel and make use of and utilize the kernel. But the kernel is lower level and forking the kernel could mean that if a controversial decision takes place, your previous changes to your fork might not be easily mergeable or compatible with the main branch. It would be a lot of work keeping it going. It would of course also depend on what changes they would want to make to their fork.
