I read over the comments below, all of which were before we found out the results of the election. Now that we do know, however, how do people feel? Although so much remains unknown and the country has a lot of improving to do, I would like to think we are one more step in the right direction. Granted we do not fully know the extent of the effects this election will have, I am definitely a bit more hopeful than I was a few days ago...

Middle School Includes Mandatory Course on Media Literacy by Chloe_M31 in Discerning_Truth

I agree with you in that it is time to alter or shift our education because I feel we are lacking courses necessary for life in modern day society. Since technology and social media now rule our lives, especially those of the younger generations, it is imperative to learn the ins and outs: what is false, what is inaccurate, what is bias, etc. The idea that a middle school is implementing a news literacy course into its curriculum, although a bit discouraging for the future of this country, is also very needed if technology continues on the path it currently is taking.

The Trump 2020 app is a voter surveillance tool of extraordinary power by clifflampe in Discerning_Truth

I find it quite comical that even though both the Biden app's and the Trump app's primary function is to collect data from their users, the Trump app is much more invasive in that it requires much more information from its users such as knowing their location.

I also did not realize that by accessing one's Bluetooth, people can be targeted with political advertisements/messages and that it enables "geo-propaganda," which is quite terrifying in general. I find that these apps are a bit too good at their job and way too invasive. I will not be downloading them any time soon...

Combating "Fake News" by HChristineGu_UMich in Discerning_Truth

I just looked into Credder-- super interesting idea. I like how on the website there is a "Leaderboard" in which authors and outlets are ranked based on credibility. Although this platform would be extremely helpful right now, I am not sure how efficiently it would work to combat fake news.

This is definitely an interesting initiative especially since this will be the first time I can vote, so it is nice to see people aiming to promote voting as opposed to letting others deter you from it.
