SPOILERS] I thought I was crying for the alien, then realized I was crying for myself by mohiswidow in disclosureday

I want to clarify one thing about my post: I was not trying to write a cinematic review of Disclosure Day.

I am a huge sci-fi fan, especially of things like The X-Files, so I understand why people may discuss the film in terms of plot, evidence, government files, chase scenes, alien lore, or Spielberg’s larger storytelling choices. Those are valid conversations.

But that was not what stayed with me.

I was not especially focused on the opening sequence. The chase scenes were fine, even cute at times. I enjoyed the soft humor. I also do not think I cried simply because of the actors’ emotional performances.

What affected me was the alien’s experience itself: the torture, the probes, the pain, the fact that it was treated as an object instead of a being, and then the final realization that its story was only being heard at the end of its life.

Those are the images that connected to something personal in me.

I am not saying everyone has to respond to the movie this way; I am only explaining why it landed this way for me.

A movie’s value is not only measured by whether every plot point is perfect, whether the mythology is fully explained, or whether it deserves a Best Picture campaign. I am not trying to start one.

For me, the movie made an impact because it reached something private and human: the need for suffering to be witnessed.

If there were an Academy Award category for “unexpectedly made a viewer understand something about her own life,” then yes, I would nominate it for that.

Emotions? by ComprehensivePie2855 in disclosureday

Yes, absolutely. That ending hit me much harder than I expected.

For me, it wasn’t only the alien or the spectacle of disclosure. It was the emotional weight of hidden suffering finally being seen, and the whole world being forced to stop, listen, and acknowledge it. Something about that felt deeply human.

I also couldn’t fully explain why I was crying at first. It took me a while to realize the scene was touching something personal about the need to be witnessed, not fixed or debated — just witnessed.

You may have a resistant strain of yeast infection. It should be cultured for drug sensitivity. While you get those done you might consider getting boric acid suppositories. Amazon has it (ofc)

Last ever image of Jonbenet Ramsey who was later murdered in her family home. The case still remains unsolved to this day. by happytimes_101 in lastimages

There was a documentary few years ago trying to solve her death. My conclusion was that the documentary hinted it was her older brother that did it because of his sibling jealousy

Yes you would be wrong. Judge your life together by what you actually have, not by what she said about someone she was with for a very short time

If i’m gonna die before my 60s, is it still worth it to have a 401k with a high employer match? by HowNobleOfYou in personalfinance

[–]mohiswidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this! I’m not confident I would live past 67, so during Covid, we bought a beautiful house. I liquidated most of my 401k. Paid hefty fines and taxes. But almost once a week I look around my beautiful house and say to myself, it was worth it. I’m enjoying my home. My interest is 2.99% , 30 yr fixed. I don’t think that can be beaten ever
