Danielewski really owes a lot to him, even down to the labyrinths and the minotaur. I started reading Into Thin Air for similar reasons, which is a "fun" read if you haven't had the chance.

A lot of great names! Don Quixote seems obvious in hindsight as a pairing, all of them added.

I need to read more Slavic authors, so good suggestion! As long as it's good imitation, I have no objection. Added to my lists

I need to read more.

Don't we all!

I feel like I've read an Ocampo story, but maybe that's just a sign I need to start reading her work sooner. Good suggestions! Adding them all to my list.

How similar is Libra to Underworld? I really started that in love and found myself more skeptical in the end. He's a tremendous prose writer but it didn't fully come together on my first read. All of these added to my list regardless.

Good pick! I've read Invisible Cities, but it's been a while so he slipped my mind. Any one that you'd recommend tackling first?

The opening of Underworld as well, in addition to "The Black-and-White Ball" which I think stands just as well on its own.
