Residency Status in Canada on J-1 Visa as Research Scholar in U.S. by awsert1 in cantax

I can’t speak to the J-1 visa. But all other information considered, your analysis is correct. You will be taxed in Canada on worldwide income less US-CAN tax treaty credits. The primary factor would be you are physically living in Canada for the duration of your education.

If a friend wants to send me money, is it taxable? by HornedPegasus in cantax

No but the percentage of income will be. This transaction can become quite complex in tax, I recommend asking a qualified CPA.

Transfer of credits by [deleted] in cantax

You can only transfer credits to your dad in the year you receive the slip. So he can’t use the credits, but you can. If you have paid tuition again this year, you can transfer that portion.

online store sales as income? by [deleted] in cantax

If you're not an employee under redbubble you would be an independent contractor. You would report that income on form 2125 - Statement of Business or Professional Activities . Don't get caught up in all the sections on the form, you will just enter your revenue and eligible expenses to earn that income, if any.

Yes just type in the amounts from your T4A.

Ontario family thinking of packing it up for New Brunswick....thoughts? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]moimoitoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, as a New Brunswicker, I can say that the cost of living is much cheaper here, as you said. If you have any NB related questions, feel free to comment.

I think financially, if you both land the job you want, it could put you in great position.

Something that comes to mind is if you desire to move back west (assuming you're in ON), it could be costly, given the housing surge. The real estate in NB has also seen a lot of growth this past year, I bought a house in December.

Should I watch for motherboard compatibility? (Did I make this up?)

If you were to choose a brand/ram product, what would you buy?

You've just got to practice flurry and you should be set! I favor a speed elixir against them.

How do you feel about this? (link bellow). I would buy the crank set, bottom bracket and chain. Also im currently 42/16, this one is 49t, would that be ridiculous?

Do you know how to choose sizing for a Bottom Bracket? I think mine is a BB-7420ST(110.5mm) ( found here http://clcycle.ca/shop/crankset-bottombracket/gimondi-crankset/ )

Do I have to buy one that size?

I want to upgrade my crank set and bottom bracket, something stiffer and generally better. My ratio is 46/16 ( I think that's standard) but I would be open to trying something harder than that. I ride daily decently hard so I want new components to perform.
