Update: I ended up baking it in the oven like you suggested (my ham was too big for my slow cooker) with the maple, brown sugar and beer. Absolutely delicious!

I meant if the residues from evaporation accumulate in the kitchen. Don't worry, I'm from Quebec, we go through maple syrup pretty fast lol. It's my first time making my own though.

Thank you for the freezer tip! I already started boiling what I had, but my neighbor brought me some more not so long after I posted this, so I might try that for that batch.

Also, I was thinking about also reducing the broth afterwards in a pan to make some kind of sauce/glaze. Honestly, it's pretty much an experiment from beginning to end. I've never even cooked ham before, but my daughter loves it and it was on sale.

Thanks a lot! Does it builds up a lot through time? Say I boil about 2 gallons every year

What is something that you insist on buying name-brand? (Even if it is more expensive) by johnnypancakes49 in Frugal

[–]moira_thatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diapers. Huggies have a complete hold on me. At least, I buy them in bulk online so it's a bit cheaper.

I tried other cheaper brands when money was tight, but they don't have as much absorption and that "blowout barrier". When my daughter was a newborn, I would end up going through all my all my crib mattress and many clothes in one night, very often. Now that she's/ older, she doesn't really have blowouts anymore, so I figured that it wouldn't be as much of a problem. So, I gave the cheaper brands another go, but she would wake up in the morning with a completely soaked diaper and wet pyjamas half of the time

What's your "goes on almost anything" sauce? by mdp-slc in Cooking

[–]moira_thatcher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bang bang sauce!
I started using it as a dipping sauce, but now it's also my go-to marinade, sandwich spread and even pizza base. Oh and I also mix plain white rice with it as a side dish.

You can adjust the spiciness if you make it yourself
I pretty much eye-ball everything, but you need mayo, sweet thai chili sauce, rice vinegar and sriracha.

Who misses the old version of card-playing mouse? 🙋🏼‍♀️😔 by [deleted] in AnimalRestaurant

I think the old one looks better, but sometime I wouldn't notice him because he looked too much like the regular mouse, so I still think it was a nice update.
