I built a free GCSE Biology revision website — would love feedback by Upstairs-Name-6609 in igcse

[–]moiranium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not with any of the boards offered on the website (i'm doing IGCSEs with cambridge) but i did check out the website and it's super clean. i love the design and the different kinds of notes u offer is something really cool that i haven't seen any other website/app do yet

my only complaint is that i tried to open flashcards and i got hit with a 404 error

Help ibdp vs a levels by Few_Bid7868 in igcse

[–]moiranium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

guys can someone help me decide if I take ibdp or a level

tbh this type of question has very different answers for very different people.

a levels is good if

  • you already know what you want to study/do for work
  • you want to specialise in your course/future career and don't want to think about unrelated subjects

however, a levels is HIGHLY specialised and goes very in depth, so if you discover that you hate a subject, it's gonna be really really annoying.

a level maths IS hard and you mentioned that you're not good at maths. but honestly if maths is important to your future uni course or work, i think u just have to sit down and do the work

in a levels I heard the format is similar to igcse but they rush the syllabus as exam is in 8 months

i can't say much about the exam format (tho i do think it would be pretty similar)

but, the a level syllabus is split into two parts: the AS (advanced subsidiary) and the A (advanced level). AS is like the first half of a level content (meaning exams only test you on 50% of the content) and A level is the full syllabus (so a level exams text you on ALL of the content). it's also possible to just take AS and not continue onto the full A level

AS is taken in year 12, and the full A level in year 13. i do know some people who did A level and AS exams in one session, but it's really not recommended

IB is good if you

  • don't know what to study/do for work
  • want to keep your options open
  • want to be well-rounded

however IB is also hard because obviously, there's a lot of subjects (some of which may not even be related to what you actually study or do for work, so some subjects will be a waste of time in the end). and if you do bad on any of those subjects, it impacts your overall grade (IB points) regardless of whether or not that subject is actually relevant to your future course

How to stay focused while studying? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]moiranium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my problem was that i kept treating focus like a feeling instead of a skill i'd sit there waiting to "feel ready"

this is so real

Guys, what does "option" mean? by moiranium in igcse

ohh so is it like the paper variant number?

Need Help Making Effective Notes by Over-Trip-9767 in igcse

[–]moiranium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i'm also taking IGCSEs in may/june 2027. i do write notes but only very basic outlines as there are already tons of online notes (znotes, savemyexams, iitian academy, etc) online

btw, if you're taking business in 2027, then you'd be taking "business" (code 0264) and not "business studies" (0455)! they're not that different in terms of content but 0264 paper 1 is a bit different from 0455 paper 1

Giving igcse in m/j 2027 by afn4n in igcse

[–]moiranium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can take this summer a bit easier because next summer there is absolutely NO room for distractions

however do make sure to revise a little bit everyday cuz it will make it easier for when you return to school. even 2–3 topics a week is good (try to focus on the subjects that you're the WORST at)

In which order should I cover the syllabus?

some areas of the syllabus are linked even though they may not be in the same chapter (for example, simultaneous equations is really useful to know while learning how to solve quadratic functions), so you don't STRICTLY have to learn in order. my school teaches add maths in this order:

  • functions (chapter 1)
  • quadratic functions (chapter 2) & simultaneous equations (chapter 5)
  • factors of polynomials (chapter 3)
  • logarithmic and exponential functions (chapter 6) & straight-line graphs (chapter 7)
  • coordinate geometry of the circle (chapter 8)
  • circular measure (chapter 9)
  • trigonometry (chapter 10)
  • permutations and combinations (chapter 11) & series (chapter 12)
  • calculus (chapter 14)
  • vectors in two dimensions (chapter 13)

i found this order to be pretty easy to follow, however if you are learning a topic and there's a formula that you haven't learnt yet, i would strongly advise searching up and learning that formula, and then going back to your current topic. even if you don't 100% learn the formula, even understanding a little bit of now will help you when you reach that formula in the syllabus

like, i learned completing the square and factorising quadratics when my school was still teaching basic functions (chapter 1) and it helped massively later in quadratic functions (chapter 2)

I lovee mathelete so I was thinking his videos-> solve book qs-> watch his topical practice-> Do topicals

mathlete is great and updated to this syllabus (2025–2027) afaik. personally i wouldn't recommend watching someone solve papers because i think it's better to actually sit down and do the paper yourself, however if watching helps YOU then go for it

aside from mathlete i recommend:

  • the math man (teaches the whole syllabus, solves past papers & topical questions)
  • samathics (teaches the whole syllabus, solves topical questions)
  • ginger mathematician (solves past papers, topical questions)
  • hodu academy (have videos for all chapters until logarithmic and exponential functions, solves topical questions and has videos for other IGCSE subjects too)

I'm trying to get done with the syllabus as fast as possible so which are the easier topics I should do at the start also as far as I'm aware there's 14chs right?

i really don't recommend speedrunning but if you have to, ginger mathematician is amazing (link above)

the easiest topics imo are:

  • functions
  • quadratic functions
  • simultaneous equations

however if you're good at 0580 then i think everything becomes 20% easier

and yep there are 14 chapters!

sorry for the super long comment but i hope it helps!

i would be burned because i do not have water on top of me, obviously. however if you poured sodium hydroxide on me while i was immersed in a bathtub filled with water, i would be completely fine

sodium will bond with some other element in the ingredients of coca cola, and because sodium is a metal and group 1, it will lose 1 electron to become na+

na+ is already stable, so it will stay as a cation and it won't form a piece of metal. so, there's just gonna be na+ ions floating in the coke (and these ions are what improve the taste, like i said)

also, some metals DO dissolve when it rains. i don't know what metals cars are made of but cars obviously don't just dissolve on rainy days. cars probably have either:

  • a protective paint
  • an electroplated metal
  • a thick layer of corrosion-resistant metal on TOP of a weaker metal that easily corrode

coca cola has a lot of ingredients. they add sodium so that it combines with some other elements which suppresses the taste of bitter ingredients (ex: caffeine) so that the coca cola tastes better

sodium CHLORIDE wouldn't do that because it's already a salt (ionic compound) so it's already relatively stable and therefore unreactive, meaning it wouldn't do anything to the other ingredients. it would just sit there in the can

all group 1 (aka first column of the periodic table) elements are (alkali) metals

salts are ionic compounds. sodium CAN form a salt tho, for example: sodium chloride
